Article in the GC Bulletin today

Easy. Either keep flying DJ or swap back to QF :)

Re: They are back and agressively marketing on the gold coast for GC-Syd flights end

There are a few reports here recently of folks getting status returned, as for the question what should you do, it depends on who you prefer and where you fly to, given QF have returned only to OOL SYD, anything else is at least a two legged hop. Of course there is always the JQ option which has some good non stop destinations ex OOL, and they have closed the canteen down (the JQ lounge).

Did anyone go to the QF event held at Q1 this morning? I was on my way but got waylaid; all good now!

Re: They are back and agressively marketing on the gold coast for GC-Syd flights end

OOL is going to need enough to "switch back" to maintain QF serviceb(and thus competition in premium cabins).

Your loyalty to QF meant nothing to them when they pulled the flights. I wouldn't give them the benefit of the doubt now.

Maybe try to at least retain/obtain Gold in both QFF and Velocity? Bit of a tough choice if you only did enough flying to get Plat status in one of the loyalty schemes though. Depends on your priorities of lounge, timing of flights and relative cost

Re: They are back and agressively marketing on the gold coast for GC-Syd flights end

yes i am a weekly flyer to either syd or melb
i might ask them to match my virgin platinum status ....least then if i fly internationaly i get the much coveted first class lounge in syd

Re: They are back and agressively marketing on the gold coast for GC-Syd flights end

Despite the reinstatement of flights only being to SYD, if you're interested in status, particularly WP, by flying through SYD a lot to MEL you'll get a bit more than what you would make, and should easily hit WP ;)

At least with only 737's operating there's no lottery on J :p

... and they have closed the canteen down (the JQ lounge).

Which served good food and had alcoholic beverages available whenever the lounge was open. The jury is still out on whether or not the change was worthwhile.

Wish someone had told me, I was free all day!

Does this mean we are likely to see a QP rising from the ashes of the JQ Lounge?

Yes, Qantas have said it will be restored to its former glory as a QP, albeit without the Tarmac views it once had, with a refurb to finish in Jan.

Its amazing isn't it - even the architects are getting in on the "enhancement" business.

The view went went the new terminal was built, taking over what used to be spare space and gardens to make room for the gates we have now.

Old view with trees and grass between terminal and apron

The terminal was widened by 50%, leaving the lounge that was once on the edge now in the middle.

The Lounge was around the far right edge of that photograph - at the green bit between the tarmac and the building.

Loved the cane chairs they had.

Does anyone know if they will hold any launch event or the like on the First day 28th Oct at the airport?
Am keen to book and fly on the first day, but would be nice if there is actually a launch event.

Don't know but there are a heap of AFF members booked onto the first few days that is for sure!

Forward bookings are looking very poor thus far... I think they'll need to up it from 3 a day pretty quickly if people are going to come running back. Virgin have steadily set themselves up a very strong Gold Coast network and QF are starting back with a lot of ground to make up.

Did I understand correctly: the JetStar Lounge at OOL has been closed, and a QP will open in its place somewhen next year? And until the QP opens, you are stuck in the airside wilderness with a burger shop and juice bar (and not enough seats...)?

Important Notice: The Gold Coast Lounge will close from the last Jetstar flight departure on the 14th October 2012. The closure will see a Qantas Club open in Gold Coast airport in late November 2012.

Great news & speedy 'turn around" for refurb.. Though it is (hopefully) a more modern improvement on existing JQ lounge, I still miss the Tarmac view, which IMO gives any lounge the most positive attribute.

I wonder if those that bought JQ lounge access for flights past when the new QP opens will get access, or be shafted, and how this will change in the future, eg. Will lounge access be offered to JQ pax for $10? Could be very attractive.

You could always come to the AFF BBQ, after the first flight ;)
