Qantas Airways splits in two

Each of the two businesses will have its own chief executive, and will report its financial results separately, Qantas said on Tuesday.
The restructure will bring about several changes to the airline's executive team, including the departure of Jetstar boss Bruce Buchanan.
"Formally separating the management of Qantas International and Qantas Domestic will ensure that we can independently run each business according to its specific priorities and market conditions," chief executive Alan Joyce said in a statement.

Qantas Airways is splitting its international and domestic operations into two separate businesses from July.
Each of the two businesses will have its own chief executive, and will report its financial results separately, Qantas said on Tuesday.

Hopefully this will end some of the cost shifting between JQ and QFi.

Can I have my Qantas shares ALL converted to Qantas Domestic please??

OR..... A combination of Qantas Domestic AND Qantas Frequent Flyer.

QANTAS will seperate its domestic and international business operations from July, each with its own CEO, as the airline continues a major overhaul. The carrier says each of the two businesses will have its own boss, and will report its financial results separately.

How are the costs associated with the fleet dealt with? Especially if a plane does intl and dom routes?

It'd be a bummer if this led to QF/JQ style dysfunctional situations. A complaint or request to QFd could provoke an answer like 'sorry sir,that's QFi, a different airline, can't help you'. :shock:

Yikes some odd choices for the new CEOs, we have:

1. QFi getting the Frequent Flyer Chief!
2. Jetstar getting the IT Chief!

I guess experience running airlines is not a job requirement these days! ;)

Given some of JQ's historical issues around IT and the website this might be a good thing.

That would have John Borghetti once upon a time, wouldn't it? :p

Given QF seem to fairly artfully deploy 744 and A33x between QFi and QFd these days I'm curious of the plusses and minuses of this move

Not really, he was from QF Sales & Marketing then Exec GM prior to becoming DJ CEO - slightly different to figuring out ways to sell toasters for QFF points! ;)

Only thing missing from this announcement is the resignation of A.Joyce :idea: (we wish)

Not at all.

Virgin have legally separated entities and distributing in specie to shareholders.

All Qantas is doing is changing management and financial reporting, but everything remains inside the same group.
