New EDR PrePaid Mastercard - very handy for mums!

If you dont have the EDR credit card and like my partner often need to put petrol in the car at the last minute with kids in the car, it may be worth looking at the new EDR prepaid re-loadable Mastercard which uses pay at the pump and links into the EDR points scheme.

Cost is $9.95 and a $1 a month if you dont put $500 on it, which for me is a cheap way to encourage SWMBO to fill up at WW and generate some more points while she does not have to worry about the kids in the car .

Having looked at this I thought I should provide some comment. Each to their own situation and preference of course. It appears targeted towards people in financially insecure situations, similar to secured credit cards in the US so tread carefully. There are cancellation fee and fees for when the account expires and if you have a balance on a expired card.

You can only recharge it with cash and/or cash advance from a savings card, so you'd lose any potential points on CC spend. It has a lengthy credit card like sign up process too with ID verification. Everydaymoney doesn't have the customer service either from my experiences.

It certainly serves a purpose for those unable to get a visa/mc otherwise but just be weary of the many strings attached. People here should just double check the fees attached. markis10 provides a certainly valid use of it but I cannot think of many others. Once the fuel discount vouchers return to 4c/2pts per litre, you are probably better off just getting cc spend points with or without the woolworths discount.

For convenience I buy wish gift cards on the Amex in bulk to avoid the need to sign each time with self serve check out etc. For fuel I'd just pick the cheapest or closest outlet. Can always use the CBA cards with PayPass or use the wish cards at the counter.

It's an interesting product but its usefulness is quite subjective.

I think the swipe and go aspect is the key thing - you can use the visa wave thing at WW caltex so you dont have to leave the kids in the car whilst you go inside to pay for fuel - I think that was what markis10 was on about?

WW only allows its own cards to be used I think.

There are plenty of alternatives for points earning but thats not the reason I posted, apart from the EDR credit card there are no options for allowing pay at the pump apart from these two given the take over of Mobil by 7-11. Anything that helps SWMBO make her life easier and possibly encourages her to buy at the right time of the fuel cycle is a bonus. BTW they are back to the normal 4c offer and not surprising fuel prices seemed to be down as well .

I'm going to have a good think about it. Ive been thinking about something in addition to my visa debit card. Im not sure if its worth paying huge annual fees just for FF points. And the paypass chip would make it handy for small purchases.

The second fee option is $1 per recharge

In South Australia the Mobil sites were taken over by Peregrine Corp - owned by the Shahin family - who will convert them to "On The Run" service stations (all/mostly BP supplied).

This was after the ACCC knocked back a Caltex takeover as being anti-competitive. In SA at least this result couldnt be said to be much better.

The traditional way has been to get you in store so you buy chips/drinks/rubbish. I'd have thought it would be counter productive to do pay at the pump. This is why mobil introduced it then were slowly withdrawing it....

I actively seek out pay at pump sites and will pay a premium per litre to go there - it sidesteps the whole getting toddlergr out of the car when you need to pay.

No it's all of the Eastern states and SA as per the link, 711 then transferred the SA ones. And you are spot on with why they took the pay at pumps away.

I assume you meant only for fuel savings offers converted to points? Or do you mean the whole, double dipping idea? I couldn’t find anywhere that said the spend on the card would give points, much like a debit card it appears not to offer that, but I’m not sure exactly what you mean by that statement.

Its linked to your EDR card so you don't need another card to take advantage of the fuel discount or points. You don't get any extra points as such, it's more a case of keeping things simple.

I don't know if the WW are different, but Mobil used to make a chunky pre-auth on your card before it would let the fuel flow :shock:

I guess the EDRCC is the option everyone here would say is the "best option" however for those not working or under the 50k limit this card may have some limited value....

Will be keeping my EDRCC for the 1:1 though...

Which of course wasn't cancelled by the purchase and hung around reducing the available credit until it expired a week later.

The benefit got a lot bigger than expected, EDR prepaid card holders will get 10c a litre off any fuel purchase when using pay at the pump for a month from Jan 24 in addition to your normal discount or points, for a total of 200 litres in the month . The other benefit I like is the emailed fuel tax invoices!

Actually, I think the offer is across all the cards, presumably to drive e-pump usage. It's certainly on my Woolworths Everyday Rewards Qantas Credit Card (henceforth known as my WERQCC )
