Announcement in the ADL QP just now indicates BNE is temporarily closed due to thunderstorms in the vicinity. QF1280 ADL-BNE currently delayed by 45 min due to this.

Things were very unusual for us this afternoon and evening. Started as usual with the major cell splitting into 2 with predictions by BOM that one part would bypass us to the south and the other to the north. But the northern part turned south and came over us
Then 2 other cells came over us with thunder and lightning Just now the 4th cell has gone directly overhead with no separation of lightning and thunder

During the second and third cells mother butcher bird was undercover with me She kept chirping at the rain. Some of it sounded like a toddler’s tantrum . Never heard those sounds before from any other bird

Today I got two BOM warnings today about the same time as the storm yesterday threatening potential storms lightning and hail.

But unlike yesterday we had a short sharp shower, no thunder, no big drenching (and no hail). Two fronts past either side of us but not over us 🤗

We fringe dwellers at The Gap saw the birthing of a cell at Lake Wyvenhoe which was stalking towards here, but the current weather favors Sunny Coast and joined its rellies there.

Whilst driving I listen to our community radio as they have the songs I knew as a young un.
But their announcers know diddly about weather forecasts . At 11am the fellow said that the BOM got the forecast wrong as they predicted a rainy day. and it is sunny now. The BOM predicted 1 - 10mm. with afternoon and evening having a high chance of showers and thunderstorms. The BOM was spot.
Just to confirm his ignorance he said that unfortunately they are predicting rain to return on the weekend.
Saturday 0-1 with 25% chance.
Sunday 0-5 with 25% chance.

Criticizing BOM forecast seems to be a national sport and often displays ignorance. BOM might be 100% sure that thunderstorms will pass through 50% of an area, some people don't get a storm and laugh that BOM got it wrong. I have a reasonably high regard for BOM forecasts, their new website on the other hand...

Well just after I agreed with you we had a strange weather event. Mrsdrron said it looks like it's going to rain. a few light grey clouds coming from the west. Absolutely no activity on the radar but a few minutes later some muffled thunder and a light shower for about 3 minutes. unusually for the Bom they had put in 50% chance of rain at 1pm in the hourly forecast..
naturally when I said nothing on the radar she hung out the washing. :(
