QFF Platinum requesting release of extra Classic award seats?

I take it that "allocation exceeded" means the maximum number of classic award seats for that flight has been reached .. and that no more can be allocated at that point.
That's been my interpretation as well, based on the HBA interaction. Seems to be final if you get that response.

In theory, if those seats that have been already taken by others get cancelled, one would hope they would subsequently be made available.
How you get access to that - without inside info - is anyone's guess.

I don't think that can be assumed - specially the closer one gets to flight time as the RM environment will change over time and probably the rules for inventory allocation. A reward seat may go back to reward nventory, or may not, depending on the flight's situation at the time of the reward cancel.

Hi all
Been trying to browse the thread - not sure if anyone knows - are we allowed to request for a release when the WP is not travelling? (Ie I’m requesting for my parents)
Thanks!

Yes - as long as you are making the booking using your own points and for an eligible family member; that is fine

Not sure if this will be an obvious no but is it possible for WPs to request a CA release on QF code share flights operated by another carrier (ie. EK operated flight)?

Tried my luck as a WP for the first time requesting 2xJ seats on MEL/SYD - SIN in June (and return in July) last week.

No luck for either request. The phone consultant advised that there was a 'hard block' for the outbound flight in June and couldn't even make a request (despite EF showing I9). Was able to request the return flight in July (also showing I9) but was denied three days later.

Not sure if it's worth trying again. Does the system automatically release seats closer to departure if J is still undersold?

Yield management may release some seats closer to the date if it is looking empty, but I wouldn't put too much hope in that. There's a reason for the hard block — they expect J to be full. June/July is a busy time for Australians heading north, and SIN is one of the main ways to get there on QF and its partners.

Edit: If you have any Velocity/Singapore points, there's some availability to SIN in June on SQ.

I was always under the impression there were blackout dates particularly for Singapore and/or QF1/2. previously I thought it was June - August and probably complicated by olympics later this year too?

Thanks, I suspected that might be the case. I'll finalise my plans in mid-April so will have another look then but not getting my hopes up. Otherwise I'll just have to slum it in Y for a few hours!

Don't have much by way of Velocity/Singapore unfortunately.

Currently on hold trying to have some domestic economy seats released for short notice travel.

First overseas agent said 'additional release isn't a thing anymore'. Second agent had no idea what I was requesting.

Third attempt now and I've been on hold for a much longer period. Hopefully routed to NZ or HBA. I'll report back!

The third was overseas but did manage to put in a request.

Gave me the booking reference and said I would get an email if it was successful. Not the same as previous experiences.

Gave it 30mins then called back with the reference number and paid points and taxes. Now sent to ticketing.

Great success. Now sitting in lounge with 2x economy CBR - BNE tickets.

I know it’s not the most glamorous use of points but for an urgent family matter it’s nice to know these things can minimise the sting to the hip pocket.

May Platinum reward releases…. 🖖

Successfully released seats over the Christmas period to/from the USA in J. This continues to be the one benefit that makes chasing WP worth it in my opinion.

But I echo the above comments about the unimpressiveness of some non-Hobart/NZ agents with these requests.

The agents insisted I was only able to make this request as part of a new booking, rather than as a change to an existing booking. In the end, I didn't push the matter or HUCA as the only loss is some DSCs and I'll still requalify, but there really needs to be better training for these so-called 'premium' consultants.

Edit: And the agent has incorrectly charged me an international reward assistance fee. Now I have to call to get that removed.

Does the status in MMB change if a request has been approved? IE does it go from requested to something else? Got an email “classic reward booking action required” asking to call for an update on the request. MMB still says requested so wondering if there is any point calling?

My experience is it changes to confirmed if approved and stays requested if denied.

QF have zeroed out I class until November on QF43.

Found 4 dates prior with I class, called and made the request. Will spare the Fiji call centre nonsense, but HBA got all of the dates released and were happy to hold them until we decided to ticket.
