Where exactly is the good value with redeeming QFF points these days?

You can see the JL fuel surcharging in play by searching JL Classic Reward for SYD <> HND RT vs HND <> SYD RT. It's pretty shocking how big of a difference there is. The points are the same but the surcharge are absurdly different.


OWA RTW is still decent value, I've managed to piece together 2.5 holiday trips this year for 318k to Asia and NA. I could've in theory also done EU, but no time to take a 6 week holiday.

To compare different redemptions against each other you need to take into account the $ and time needed to accumulate the required miles / points instead of elementary arithmetic between the amounts. What's the cost of 30,000 AA miles vs 75,000 QFF points to you?

It's a pity that the airline filter on the QF booking app isn't more inclusive. Currently it's QF or "other". Ideally, I would prefer all partner airlines listed including those under the QF umbrella, especially Jetstar , so they may be deleted from any search should one desire.

And the filter should carry through to the date/ calendar across the week to easily find rewards only for the airline(s) you want to travel, like excluding MH

And why don’t they have a true filter to include or exclude what one selects? No jetstar, no Y, no F, only partner airlines etc. But we forgot only pigs fly and we only get a bundle of rights, whatever they are.

Given the state of everything else, it's their IT or more likely the backbone of the IT system. I have a feeling the dinosaur systems that form the backbone can't handle that kind of querying and filtering.

The SYD F lounge isn’t that good that it would entice me to fly with JQ but each to their own

What frustrates me is filtering for Business Class rewards bookings and the choices are all 1 or more stop options and only the local leg is business, the rest is JQ economy.

Then it's even quite prominent on the normal 'cash' part of the website:

I noticed the booking display has changed and there is a specific Selectin now to 'flip' between "Cash", "Rewards" and "Pints plus Pay" in the search.

Default when doing a Points search is "Points Plus Pay". In the app there is "Cash" or "Rewards", but cash really appears to be "Points Plus Pay".
