Well, just when I thought I'd seen Qantas pull every trick in the book, I found this one out! We'd taken three JAL business class flights from Seoul to Tokyo return and Osaka to Seoul. As I say, all booked via JAL website and all business class. All with a full One World partner airline. Claims rejected on the 'Track points page' with NO explanation. I could undestand this if it was a short domestic JAL or some deeply discounted economy fare but I cannot work this out AT ALL, nor can I see anything in the thousands of particles of terms and conditions that normally bury these deceits. Can anyone explain what has happened here since Qantas wont. Many thanks, Philip (Platinum QFF)

Flights not operated by JAL the most likely

Flights not operated by JAL the most likely reason
Correct.
Flights were operated by Korean Airlines.

Yes. They were Korean air but with JAL flight numbers. I always thought that flight number was key, not the metal. Have I got this wrong? Thanks a lot. Philip
The JAL flight has to be operated by either Qantas or other oneworld carrier for it to be eligible to earn QFF points and status credits. A JAL codeshare with Korean Air (Skyteam alliance) would thus be ineligible in this case unfortunately.

Qantas Points and Status Credits are earned on all eligible booking classes, except on JAL and Japan Airlines affiliate codeshare flights operated by an airline other than Qantas or a oneworld member airline.
It should also be noted you will see something similar for pretty much all other oneworld partners from the above link.
The bespoke partnerships will also have a similar rule (e.g. Air France, KLM, Emirates).

Yes, as KE belongs to Skyteam and not oneworld. So flying on JL metal would have done the job.

The only flights that earn status credits are those operated *and* marketed by a oneworld member, have a QF code when operated by a QF non oneworld partner, or are operated and marketed by a JQ group airline with the extra bundle.

eg, you can earn points on EK or AF because they are non oneworld QF partners, however you'll only earn status credits on those flights when you book them with the QF codeshare.
you'll get status credits on JL6800, because it is a codeshare on a oneworld operated flight (AY73), but you won't on JL5201 because it is operated by a non oneworld member and isn't a QF code.

,,, or AA and BA marketed flights. They do not have the disclaimer oft mentioned in this thread .

Qantas Points and Status Credits are earned on all eligible booking classes.

Thanks to everyone who replied here. Another loophole I didn't spot. Much appreciated 👏. Last follow up - as I'm a member of both JAL and KA FF programmes, is there any point in trying to get these flights honoured by either of them?

It's actually a bit more complicated than that. If the flight carries a Qantas, British Airways or American Airlines flight number you'll earn status credits as though you flew on a flight they operated. For all other partners, you must be flying both on a OneWorld flight number and a OneWorld operated flight.

Put a retro claim through on JAL.

Check the Korean FF rules, they’ll probably have a similar exclusion since they’re JAL flight numbers.

This will work with JL FF program if it’s worth while?
