30% off Dom Y class rewards 2023

Not only excludes business but also any itineraries with multiple classes, which is interesting:

If your Trip includes multiple cabins, for example, Adelaide to Melbourne in Business and Melbourne to Cairns in Economy, the discount will not apply to your booking.

Translation:

1. We have huge points liability (no spit, sherlock)
2. Bookings for March-June quarter on AU domestic are down in Y and we ramped up capacity

Must sell seats and reduce liability.

Prob be another dom sale on at the end of the month.

The T&Cs state:
The 30% discount on points will be automatically applied to the Qantas Points required for all available and eligible domestic Economy Classic Flight Rewards booked between 11.00am (AEDT) Monday 16 January 2023 and 11.59pm (AEDT) Sunday 22 January 2023, for travel on Qantas between 1 March 2023 and 30 June 2023.To receive the 30% discount on points, all flights in your Trip must be eligible Classic Flight Rewards booked in the same cabin.

However, where you have two flights such as SYD-MEL-CFS, some combinations are showing no discount (where Jetstar is included for one of the flights), others are showing a discount that is considerably less than 30% (the website appears to be pricing each segment individually and adding them together rather than basing the number of points on the total overall distance).

Would be nice to tie in sweeteners for pc/pc+ members, such as allowing J or International redemptions :D
I'd say the answer is that international is so demand heavy there's just nothing they want to give away when supply is still far less than supply.

But we draw the line at Business 😁
This is not new though. I'm struggling to recall the last time (if ever?) QF offered discount rewards on premium cabins (I guess I'll be corrected shortly lol)

QF probably quite rightly feels they will extract poibnts for upgrades to J on dom flights and the odd reward, seat as is so there's no reason to offer a discount.

They definitely have offered discounts on domestic business in the past. I took advantage of one in March 2021, MEL-SYD-MEL in J for 25,600 points instead of the usual 36,800

Does Qantas and/or Gov Agencies release detailed loading factors by days & route? I think the BITRE reports are too high level
to make such conclusions on actual QF loading factors in Y.

Having said that - all QF Intl flights I have been on since May were 100% sold out in Y with the only exception of the SYD - WLG route (both ways).

I want to say it was done on Trans-tasman (or was it Norfolk Is.?) during the bubble

They did in mid-late 2021, I think it was 20% discount on any class using points. MrsK and I used it flying in Bus to go from Canberra to Perth return in July 2022

Dammit, I recently booked 9 x tickets for SYD<>PPP for my family. I’m wondering if it’s cheaper to cancel and rebook them with the discount…
