Australian state border restrictions

G'day folks - QLD's 'COVID-19 Vaccine Plan To Unite Families' says that once 90% of the eligible QLD population (the 16+ population, for the purposes of this plan) are fully vaccinated, that there will no longer be any restrictions for fully vaccinated folks to enter QLD. Current projection for this rate to be achieved, is on the 19th January (per COVID Live). I'm taking the family up to FNQ on the 20th Jan - a day later.

I have some RATs put aside in case they are needed; but do we think the plan and conditions will update with immediate effect, when they get to 90%, or is it just as likely they defer or put into place from the following week, or similar.

Cheers,
Matt.

I'm always a bit sceptical about Covid Live projections, they predicted NSW 12+ would hit 90% double dosed on 14th Nov and that still hasn't been achieved, and they dont seem to update forecasts if they miss a target.

At the moment all the momentum seems to be with 3rd doses, things have slowed terribly for 2nd doses pretty much everywhere. So i wouldnt bank on it, keep those RATs handy just in case.

But we did hit it on the 14 Nov 2021 - they just use an arrow hitting a bullseye, instead of the green tick on the others... 95% is the one they can't get seem to get at, and it keeps pushing out:

I doubt we’ll ever hit 95%. And it’s irrelevant anyway. The rate of vaccination is unbelievably high. This is why very few people are sick.

My impression is that Qld have been pretty good on borders since Nov. I recall they brought 80% earlier?!?!

Qld a bit cautious about school, but that is the only Omicron reaction so far to go off

I stand corrected, forgot that 12-15 is such a tiny portion of the population its doesn't effect the overall rate 12+, even though within that cohort they haven't hit 90% or either first or second doses - seems to be lots holding their kids back from getting jabbed even though have been eligible since August - strange given most adults are moving onto their 3rd jab.

Police were checking every car on the border on the New England Highway (A15) at Wallangarra yesterday when I passed through. Noticeably none of the police were wearing masks - so maybe helping seeding omicron in Qld. They didn't complain when I wasn't wearing a mask - I was somewhat flummoxed having everything ready - photo of RAT, PDF of border pass, showing vaccine certificate.

The New England region is really beautiful at the moment following all the rain. Perhaps I can only ever recall the terrible droughts. The falls at Wollomombi were really flowing well - worth a visit if you're in the area and the rain continues.

Did they actually check for evidence of RAT?
