Valuing Complimentary Credit Card Travel Insurance

More variables...and hence the thread. See it really can be complicated.

But all those variables I referred to only exist with paid (purchased) policies. Not with CC insurance, which is set. There's only one policy. And they usually happen to be top tier. you don't usually have to worry if bags are covered, or missed connections, or delays etc.

How can any fixed insurance NOT have variables? your entire trip is variable. we are.....the weather is.

The policy is not variable. Unlike TID or Cover1 (or whatever) which may have three or four different policies with different levels of cover and different exclusions, CC companies only have a single policy. There is no time spent comparing the different PDFs for each one.

It all comes down to the PDS and the T&Cs of each policy. Assuming a policy will cover you simply because you've paid cash for it rather than had it bundled into your credit card annual fee seems foolhardy. You should always check whether you'll be covered in your own specific circumstances, otherwise what's the point of taking the policy out in the first place?

Assuming you are going to read the PDS anyway the only difference between CC policies and paid policies is making sure you have activated the CC policy, which literally should only take 2 minutes since the terms of activation are usually pretty straightforward.

Arguing against CC policies because they are "complicated" or because you have a "bad feeling" about them is ridiculous.

I have to agree with you, it is much easier comparing the PDS's from the credit cards, than comparing the PDS's of three different levels of cover among say three on-line direct travel insurance companies, all of which cost far more than the complimentary cover from the cards - which makes that exercise rather nugatory in the first place.
