AS miles best value for flying J. Read up on it, it took me over a year to get my head around it and that was over 3 years ago.
Just booked 5 x J perth - jfk over xmas return on cathay. Wouldnt fly any other way

I think by memory it was 10% of the fare. When we went to LA from perth we used qantas points for my husband and my infant and then alaska air for me and my 2 year old.

However, when I told my husband I had booked (yep booked without saying anything to him) he stuck his nose up and...
If you have points though and can find availability, cheap flight one way and pints redemption the other way :)
Considering I usually allow $250 to fly per - Mel/syd/BNE it's a great price :)))
We both definitely got the short straw didn't we with our ankles!!! 16 months down and I'm still in pain too :( can't walk properly yet either!
I personally wouldn't fly so soon after surgery either.
Alcohol is really cheap at Walmart as well. $18 for a 1L bottle of jacks (from Vegas so taxes different).
Also a visit to Walmart is definitely an eye opener!!!
On our visit to Vegas last year we actually found the south outlet mall to be better than the north one. But can't hurt to go to...
