How many other routes have been cut.

As one of the potential 5000 staff to go, I just want to say this morning has been quite full on – I think the note to mention is no one would have got the sack today, they are just saying to each level they will inform people in time. So it will be drawn out even longer.

But all I will say is most of us are shocked Joyce isn’t putting his hand up – he sacks 5000 people and yet he keeps his job. A lot of the factors the airline can control are the responsibility of the board and CEO – they have both failed and yet the workers are the ones that suffer. The press conference was embarrassing – great question from Ross Greenwood about Joyce’s future (swatted away nicely) and the one about the venue for the press conference was even better. And the lack of answers given was really just showing how poorly we as an airline are managed right now – and yet they keep their jobs.
I hope for the staff that will be let go they told sooner rather than later.

Not just before easter as it creates hardship with in the family.

To replace the lost staff they would be getting in contractors I hope the positions are offered to incumbent staff members.
 
No "enhancements" to the QFF program that I can see? Then I'm still a relatively happy camper.
 
It seems there is little point raising concerns or suggesting service improvements on AFF for the benefit of the company representative... the CEO made it clear on a number of occasions that customer satisfaction is very high, and there is nothing that needs to be done in that department.

Customer satisfaction is high, if you don't actually ask (or have) any customers.

Re the spill about QF's fleet restructuring....Surprised that AJ was not questioned about why no 787s are going to QF instead of going to J*.

You obviously missed AJs speech "Alan Joyce: We need to continue to invest in getting customer satisfaction improving"

FWIW this type of thing has happened to me 5 times in my 30 years of working life.....two retrenchments, two employers/companies went belly up and one very nasty and very lucrative partnership breakup that went legal with eye watering legal cost. Each time I ended up in a better place than I left and life improved. Very hard to see a happy future whilst you're in the trenches overwhelmed by gossip, negative energy and waiting for your number to come up - keep positive!

Correct. But as the media release said "Qantas International will withdraw from the Perth-Singapore route from 12 May 2014 [emphasis added] . . ." May is before July and is in the current financial year, not the next.

Does EK fly that route (from a code share perspective)?

Qantas does have customers (read somewhere the other day an average load factor of 75% which is on par with worldwide industry), the issue is there are not enough customers willing to pay the costs required for Qantas to cover the cost of operating the service.
 
I've got some PER-SIN booked with 3 kids. Presumably changing to JQ???????? Arrggh!
 
For those comparing nz and qf remember that the entire nz A320 operation is basically operated like jetstar with no frills service and pay for extras. Also lower paid crews. So if you are going to compare route networks you should include JQ international with QF international

Also remember that Air New Zealand does not have a competitor with a LCC cost base, backed by two essentially government owned airlines eating away at their domestic market share and yeild. Oh and a CEO who knows how much to charge to hurt Qantas.

That's it for me.

Been WP for 13 years now, but i have no options for QF J to Asia out of PER anymore (and no, work will not pay me to go via MEL or SYD, and no, i will not fly JQ).

Think i'll just finish requalifying WP for next year as have QF77 J flight next week and onwards to Europe on EK J. Then i'll have to change credit cards to start accumulating *A points (and use up remaining QF points) and switch to SQ going forward.

... and i forgot to mention, start flying VA over East....it doesnt matter if QF have wide body aircraft or not on East-West runs, what matters is the overall value proposition for people living over West....

FWIW I would be ring QF now and getting a rerouted flight to go via East Coast if that is what you want or jump on net and see how much SQ is going to cost.
