Folks,

I am doing an office cleanout today and once again find myself with a bewildering array of connectors and cables.
I have happily solved the 240V adaptor problem with the purchase some years ago of a Fuji one unit does all.

However is the array of connectors that is my bugbear.

Several years ago in the UK I was given as a corporate present a small case about the size of envelope - it had every connector known to man - I think well over a dozen and as a bonus is was supposed to charge via solar batteries - alas as good as the idea was - it never lived up to expectations.

I am planning my next trip o/s and would like to hear your suggestions.

Not entirely sure what you are asking (what do you call a 'connector') - maybe 'is there the world's best adaptor out there that fits almost everything' ?

Don't know anything like that - I've given up on the search for perfection. What I do these days is to take an 4 plug + 2 USB Aussie power board with me and a single 'universal' power plug adaptor and just use the same charging devices as at home. These days its down to 3 - one for laptop, one for mini iPad (if I want fast charging) and one for camera (again, if I want fats charging). The phone, spare phone battery and everything else charges via USB on the power board.

Firstly, thanks for your reply, appreciated.
By connector I mean just exactly that. The corporate kit I was referring to just had the end connectors (all like a male/female connection).

Are you talking about the USB charging kits for mobiles??
you plug them into USB slots and they have every mobile connection possible (at the time, Apple went and changed their plug. Wasn't that great). I have heaps of these. Usually freebies from trade shows.

rooflyer has a good idea. I did this on my last trip. I have one universal power adapter with USB. Took a double adapter with me. Instant charger for laptop, phone and anything else.

I use a Notebook adaptor that has a USB outlet and I have a cord with a micro USB plug with an Apple plug that plugs into that as required, so one cord and one brick does the job.

I use one of these for USB charging now .. it's incredible when you have two people's devices to charge: Anker 40W 5V / 8A 5-Port Family-Sized Desktop Charger
Other than that, I travel with a 4 port power board (AU type) .. super cheap ($5 or so) and a travel adapter for the country I am going to. I plug the power board into the adapter, and the adapter into the wall. Everything then gets plugged into the powerboard. All up, the cost is about $35 ($5 travel adapter, $5 powerboard, $25 iAnker 40W USB charger).

DeKa, the Anker sounds interesting as it charges each item plugged in at its maximum current draw.
Any idea of what it cost you - ie separately and in freight?

Is there a smarter way to buy it?

These ones are almost guaranteed to die if you run them at 2.1A. Even an iPad plugged into one port seems to kill them.

My one linked above is going well... And provides 8A total.

Thanks for the heads up . I will test it before I go away

And then a Apple brings out a different cable and the rules all change again.

Thank goodness that nearly all mobiles are micro USB.

I don't understand? All the Apple cables have USB plugs on the "charger" end so this Anker charger will work whatever type of cable you need.

Besides, I don't understand all the complaints about 30 pin to lightning. 30 pin was in use for around 10 years. In that time, other brands went from mini USB to micro USB causing the same need to change cables.

Its the difference between industry standard and customized - aka patent royalties
