Famous people seen (or even met) whilst flying or lounging

Chris Robinson from the band Black Crowes

Ha! - that just reminded me of the time circa early '90s when I was seeing some people off at I think SYD Terminal 2 and the Black Crowes were all lying (and I mean lying) around a nearby gate recovering from their show the prior night, which I has actually been at. I was sitting in McDonalds (it was an eat-in back in those days I recall) and their bassist Johnny Colt just queued up with everyone else to buy some golden arches. Hardly anyone recognised him, but I took the opportunity of grabbing a tray-mat and getting him to autograph it, which he did very kindly. That was a great gig, too.

I just found this thread - very entertaining reading!

I've only sat next to 2 celebrities in my travels - both in J class in Asia.

The first was Thongchai Jaidee (not a major celebrity, but quite big in the Asian golfing world - probably the most famous golfer Thailand has produced).
A lovely guy and he actually started the chat and, naturally, we talked about golf, which is great for a total hack like me.

I also sat next to British TV Chef, Ainsley Harriott on a flight from SIN-HKG once in SQ J. A lovelier guy you couldn't ask to meet.
I knew who he was and wasn't going to disturb him, but we hit turbulence and he spilt his drink. Until the crew could get back with some napkins I offered him mine (which I hadn't used yet) and he was exceptionally grateful. We started chatting about a wide range of topics and he is just a fantastic guy.
We both established that we smoked (well, at the time I did) and he had run out before boarding and asked if he could "bum one" when we got to HKG.
As soon as we landed in HKG we made a bee-line for the smoking room. It worked out we were both staying in Kowloon in hotels near each other and he offered me a ride in his car that was waiting for him. A sincerely nice, warm human being.

My better half sat across the row from Gordon Ramsay once and said he was exceptionally rude to the crew for the whole flight. Surprise me.

Finally, a few months back I saw Luke Nguyen checking in for a VN flight from SYD-SGN. There was a problem with my booking that was in the middle of being rectified, and I was asked to "stand to the side" for a few minutes while they made a phone call. It was at this time LN turned up to check in. I didn't hear all of the conversation, but it did seem he was getting a little er...flustered... that he had been booked in Y class and wasn't guaranteed to get an upgrade based on "who he was".

Mitchell Pearce and a couple other 'no-necks' lounging around the pool at Padma Resort in Legian last week.

Clearly the typical rocket scientist who plays RL as he has his name tattooed down his bicep - guess it's so he can remember who he is.

Pervez Musharraf & entourage in EK FLounge at LHR last year. I was selecting some snacks when he bumped into me ~ 2 minders flanking him. They later boarded the same A380 to DXB ~ last to board, just behind me.

Unlikely that will happen again, as he is currently in an ICU in a military hospital.

I live in Canberra - so politicians are a given.... Kieran Perkins - really nice and quiet guy, Tony Jones (Q&A) sitting in the Melb QP with sunglasses on, Blanche d'Alpuget (sp?) in QF J SYD-CBR, Dr Drew (American snake oil salesman) at the LAX AA departure gates and that same trip ... Mr T who was behind me boarding our flight to ORD (who is a lovely guy and with a surprisingly soft voice)... there are others... Oh the guy who sued Peter Slipper at the SYD QP... most I recognise and can't remember the name...half the West Indian cricket team in the DXB EK J lounge.

Labor Senator Kim Carr in the MEL J Lounge on Sunday (10NOV). Didn't look at all impressed to be slumming it with us regular plebs in the J Lounge.

Not surprised. Even though you'd think it should be the other way, most Labor ministers I've seen while travelling have tended to be very "aware" of who they are.

Wonder if Mr T has to remove his bling for TSA screening? Perhaps he has the pre screening/known traveller bit sorted.

I saw a fun sized Mr T in downtown Vegas.

I wonder if the real Mr T hates flying like his character did in The A Team?

Pity the fool who gives Mr T a hard time!

Sat amongst the guys from The Whitlams on a VA flight from Perth last year - all friendly and funny to chat with to boot!

Hugh Jackman was going down the SYD Qantas FLounge escalators as I was going up, on Jan 1st morning. At I stared at him, he looked back at me with a face of "yes, it's me".
