Cash Back has returned to Ebates and MrRebates

I noticed ebates were back about 10 days ago. Made a large number of cancellations and re-bookings just in case it is only temporary

Is it worth giving away your private banking details to an unknown company though? 4.5% or 6% doesn't sound like a lot of cash back and then doesn't that just give one more account to keep check-on to ensure you get the promised cash back? I don't know as I don't use them, but those are the immediate thoughts that occur to me. I must admit, I'm really over the continued need to track your rewards, whether it be Hilton, VA, Hertz, Europcar or whoever (they have all at some point failed to deliver promised rewards).

I was getting at least a few hundred every quarter, so I think its worth it, especially on reward nights.

I'm in a similar position as markis and I used to get upto $500 or so every quarter. I haven't given any unknown company my bank details, rather they pay me directly to my paypal account and I have complete faith in that company

Ebates pays to my PayPal. I have no issues with that.
And I cancelled and rebooked a stay over New Years. If it credits properly, it could be worth a significant rebate to me ;)

Ditto for me, as posted back in #2 I cancelled a large number of bookings for the first part of the new year and rebooked using ebates

Good news!
I was able to boost my Paypal account a fair bit last year - money I otherwise would not have had.

Is there a reason you chose Ebates over Mr.Rebates? By the look of the Loyalty Lobby info, Mr.Rebates gives 6% over Ebates 4.5%.

All of them differ at some stage, IIRC ebates paid 10 or 12% at some stage last year I think (markis, your memory may be better than mine). It's just a matter of personal preference. Like someone said, you start getting too many accounts to follow, best to pick one and follow that. You win some you lose some.

Essentially Ebates and Mr Rebates are store fronts which provide cashbacks to encourage business. About the only details they get is your name and the email address you use for your paypal account.

IIRC Mr Rebates had IHG properties at least 15% cashback in late 2012.

I can perhaps understand 15% being worth it (just). I never took up the Hilton Macquarie card because I just couldn't be bothered with the 20% on offer and the debating to get it and so on and so on............but with this offer 4.5%.....6%. My latest IC SYD bill was roughly $800. Taking the higher percentage and dropping off the taxes may result in a $43 rebate. Meh!

Hey, no problems, you don't like the idea then don't do. If it's ok with you the rest of us will continue if we wish however if I can receive $43 for doing absolutely nothing, I will take it.
BTW my last stay ( prior to the stopping of ebates) at the IC SYD was 6 nights in a club room costing an average of $379 per night with a return of 109.00. You may not want $100 but I certainly used it up

So $43 for clicking a link which is the only extra work you have to do is not worth it??? Its not like your losing points or anything! Fair enough, to some of us that's easy money to save.

Just on another matter you appeared concerned about giving banking details to an unknown company. As a few of us have responded and are using paypal as payment option,
I do know that ebates will also send you a cheque. This cheque is drawn on a bank in Silicon Valley and can be banked in your bank here in Australia. It does cost a fee of $10 and takes about 4 weeks to clear, but it is another way of getting paid if you don't have paypal.

Where have I even suggested others should not do it? I was trying to understand the logic of the rebate and whether I could be bothered applying it to my circumstances. The bank account apprehension actually came from another rebate site that was suggested as a way of getting some PP subscription back. I went to that site and they actually had a warning about not joining unless I was prepared to hand over my banking details. I didn't even think of Paypal, which is probably a good concept, except my Paypal account get used maybe once a year so not so attractive for me.

My life is currently about making things less complex. I believe that's my decision to make and act on. I'm not against saving money but there is a point where I just couldn't be bothered. I'm not for one minute suggesting others have that same point nor change to mine.

It should be noted that if you refer friends you get 20% of their spend, so if you sign up son or daughter and then refer yourself, booking through your link means their account gets 20% of your rebate ;)

Whether it is a $40 note saved or not does not seem to excite many in our community.
I line up in Woolies and watch how no one else is using a 5% off on a Wish Card nor are they using a credit card to get 3 points per dollar.
It is as if it is just too hard for them to save with rebate deals like this.
My friend has a bookkeeper who is over the moon from the rebates email I sent her. Now there is a young lady who knows the value of a dollar and her clients love her.

In the last 3 or 4 years, I have received over £7000 in cash back rebates. Yes, $A13000+

How I managed to earn this much is a secret, but yes, cash back rewards can be lucrative if you wish to click a link...

Even if you don't use your paypal account that often, you can still pay some bills with paypal. Just in the last month I paid a number of bills e.g. Telstra, rates, private health insurance etc and because I am cash positive with my paypal account, guess what? I didn't have to fork out 1 dollar to pay those bills because I had money in my paypal account.
