Flexi to Business Velocity points upgrade - can I upgrade a mate?

Hi all,

I am looking at flying MEL-PER return between Christmas and new year, with a mate. I would like to purchase a flexi fare and use Velocity points to upgrade to business, but my mate does not have enough points to do so, nor does he have enough credit card points to transfer. Can I use my points to upgrade my mate? Any other suggestions on how to do this?

Yeah that's fine! Have done it many times!

Make sure you pick an A330 flight, always heaps of upgrade inventory, excellent service!

Sometimes I try and do a dummy redemption booking - if business class is available for full redemption it is generally available for upgrade. I've had no issues upgrading a party of 6 at the same time previously on the BNE-PER return sectors on the A330.

I rang up the other day check on upgrade availability on a MEL-PER flight to be told that the were TWELVE upgrade-able seats.....

Isn't that pretty much the whole cabin??

Anyway, looking forward to it - my first Coast-to-Coast in J... have heard many good things, just hoping for one of the new birds!

No, it's less than half... but only in the case of the more infamous members of the fleet .
