Star Alliance Upgrade Chart

Please forgive me if this is a stupid question. For an upgrade from Australia to Europe- are the miles shown on the chart one way or return? ie from economy to business class return how many mikes do I need. I'm with lifemiles so it 35,000 or 70,000 return. Many thanks.

It's per segment, so 35k one way, note there are very specific fare buckets that are eligible.

I hope you didn't pay for it out of your own pocket! (Unless it's a one way ticket which they seem to occur a lot more often)

I did pay for it. I think it's a Y. I just tried to check but can't find the fare class. I know it was one I could upgrade with.
