I just accidentally purchased travel insurance when making a domestic booking
I did another booking and when I looked carefully (after the various screens trying to sell me rental cars, hotels, carbon offsets, etc that all default to not purchasing something) that the payment screen has a default option to buy travel insurance

Is this new or have I been unconsciously deselecting this option in the past?

always been like that. It's a bit of a con.

Yep. Simple process. Does need a reminder sometimes. More people need to leave it ticked and go through the refund process... Might help encourage it being changed to opt in.

Interesting, thanks. I must have been turning it off all this time and never noticed!

Worse yet, using Chrome on Win7 I find that on occasion when I tick 'no' (and it shows as 'no' is selected) and submit the form it will return me to the same form complaining that I didn't select 'yes' or 'no' for the travel insurance option, requiring me to re-enter all of my payment details. It's incredibly frustrating, particularly when I'm in a hurry, and aside from the fact that I wouldn't buy their travel insurance on a bet.

When I booked a flight recently for a RED velocity member I nearly got caught out, but as a WP they don't seem to trick me into it I have noticed.
