OK so I am off to WLG on Thursday and got my email reminding me of my upcoming flight (just in case I forgot heh).

My other half then brought this to my attention:

Now previously i've only noticed this on AUH/LAX flights and TT was always less. Whilst I realise this is not actually enforced (none of us would check in to a VA flight 3 hours early as we can't get into the QF F lounge ;)), I'm guessing it's just to prevent people from arriving too late and missing their flight. The 'bolding of the 'at least 3 hours prior' is interesting though.

At least 3 hours prior? That's a bit ambitious. I didn't think check-in even opened until 3 hours prior for VA?

AFIAK, it doesn't. And this is an NZ service anyway with VA code =)

I'm sure it's just a way of saying 'you weren't here for checkin so tough!' if people rock up at T-40minutes =)

The published (Last I checked) times are check-in opens at T-180, and closes at T-90... Although there are always agents there and I have never had problems checking in early. Last month I check in for a VA Codeshare TT on NZ metal about 6 hours early (Don't get me started on the 2 flights a day out of ABX that line up with nothing). The VA reps were useless, however. They just parroted the company line that checkin opens 3 hours prior and no one would be let in before. Yeah. Good one VA. Tell a SG Pax holding a VA marketed J ticket that he has to wait in the check-in area for 3 hours because one part of VA doesn't operate flights at a time convenient to another part of VA.

But back to the original question. The at least 3 hour part is bogus. I've checked in well under and well over that. Probably, like the SYD flight boards, aspirational only and in no way intended to reflect reality.

Agreed hence why I posted it. Seemed pretty strange to put it in there, and bold it.
