Just tried to book J London to Brisbane with Velocity points (no luck) flight over is with QFFP, rang VA to get a price they said they have no one way fares and you can only book return to UK. Seems absurd. Can book with Etihad but Emirates better connection times and $1000 less!!

Strange, the velocity awards table all quote one way. If you don't have luck ex-LHR, consider flying out of AMS, MXP, FCO, ZRH, CPH, BRU etc (as first pref) or Germany/CDG (as second pref) as often the cost of the airfare to get to one of those airports will be less the Air Passenger Duty that UK charges on business class fares out of LHR.

Etihad J one way from BRU was very reasonably priced when i booked it mid year. We used 2 x SYD-AUH-MAN o/w on velocity points and had enough for a one way back from somewhere in Europe but had to buy another o/w ticket. After quite a bit of searching BRU was the best value to buy a o/w from although if you can get all the way to IST there are even cheaper J and F fares o/w from there.

I just did that very thing, its only a 3.5 hour flight from London so not too bad to do in Y. TK & BA have fares around the 100GBP mark on that route so very reasonably priced. Well worth it in my opinion.
