Have just completed a LHR - SYD flight via AUH. So far only the SC and miles for the AUH- SYD sector have come through, with a flight to Perth this Friday I will be on 995SC with 30SC owing to me from the LHR-AUH leg.

Any idea what the chances are that Velocity will move me up to Platinum or will I have to wait until the remaining SC come through?

If you took the LHR-AUH leg within your qualification period, they will be back-dated and you will get WP.

If they've fallen outside this years qualification and into next year, you're out of luck unfortunately. You can perhaps try and call VA and explain your situation, but it's not clear cut (They do seem to be a little more flexible than QF's 'do the SC's or don't get the status' but they're not under any obligation to bump you up either).

Have you done the required 8 segments on VA Metal as well?

Won't have done 8 sectors on VA metal which is why I was hoping to get qualified before the eligable sectors kick in on the 25th. Having said that I have 2 more flights to book within Australia before my flight back to London so should tick over on that. Flight back to London is a VA as opposed to EY booking so should count towards the sectors.

Chances are good I'd say. My +1 was 10 off Gold and got a "since ur so close" letter and was bumped up. Although was about 80% from J travel that may have influenced.

If your profile has anything more than 0 under the 'Additional sectors required to get Platinum' field, you may be out of luck. Mine has 0 (as I have re-qualified and my year rolls over end of this month). I believe if it's in your profile, it's being used (not a blanket 'end of August' type thing).

Congratulations!

Out of interest, do you think that the additional benefits gained with a platinum membership are worth the extra 500SC's it takes to get plat? I'm a gold member now and am trying to decide if I should shunt my SCs to my partner so that he can get gold too, or if I should just get platinum myself.

IMHO:
If you always travel together; go for Plat.
If you travel separately regularly, or with other people, go for 2 x Gold for the lounge guests and status perks it each persons own right.

Consider that as 2X Gold you can each take one guest into lounge. As Plat you can take in 3 guests, so an extra guest. Particularly handy when travelling with family / friends I find. And if you are family pooling then there's always the chance that if you achieve plat plus 500 points extra in the 12 months then you get a comp Gold to give to your partner anyway! I found this particularly handy.
