Airways host flies QF and regrets it.

I'd like to know her expertise on why the plane was deemed u/s

Looking at her Twitter Screenshot, it seemed she left the getting to work to bang on the time (i.e have to be at work in an hour...), there seems to be minimal time between the first announcement and the solution offered, and it seems she doesn't know a thing about the show she hosts, as TT would go tough, can't get you flying for a week cos we feel like it...

Funny isn't it.

And of course she knows more about aircraft maintenance and safety than the "moronic" airline .

In any case I think it demonstrates that Qantas need to improve their communication. She would be indicative of your 'normal' pax - far from understanding and patient.
If her info was indeed correct, surely it should have been picked up prior to having to sit on the tarmac?

Corinne Grant? Moronic?

Why do those words go together so well :p

Sorry, I'm going to write this article off to the usual News Corp bias towards QF and non-issue reporting.

For starters, Grant is a known friend of the unions and union sympathiser. That's one reason alone I wouldn't buy the story, specially when Purvanis was able to comment so quickly on it.

Secondly, there's no corrobrating reports of the issues backing up any of the statements made by Grant.

Thirdly, the paper in question hasn't sought comment from the airline in question.

Fourthly, these things happen. Using it to benefit your union friends shows just how much of a kiss-cough you are.

Fifthly, what's to say that someone from ALELA didn't make this problem happen already knowing Grant was on the flight - thus creating waves to further support their own campaign against the airline? (yeah, it's a conspiracy theory - but such a stunt wouldn't be out of the norm for ALELA)

Sorry, but she can go back to flying Tiger and take her union mates with her. If you don't allow enough space in your schedule to cover for any potential issue, then it sucks to be you.

Why, some systems would only become operative at certain stages of the departure preparation/engine start, especially hydraulics! How may times have you had a car fail on start when it worked perfectly last time?

Gee so many experts. Now exactly how do you know what flight she was on and how long they sat waiting before she first twitted?

To much news ltd bias here to notice the valid complaint about how they handled the situation

I'd like to know her expertise on why the plane was deemed u/s

Maybe they made an announcement. Sorry folks plane no go it has a leak. :o

I would imagine the answer to be no

I would like to know your expertise to make that conclusion. :p

Good question. When doing prestart checks I've never had a car fail to start due to, say, having no oil or some other failure related to something that is part of the prestart checklist. Of course, I have had problems with hydraulic brakes post start.

Very true. I seem to recall from reading the article earlier though (it's not opening for me now.. :/ ) that it was described as an "oil leak". This, I would have thought, would be noticed earlier if it was of any significant size.

But, I'm definitely in the 'no expert' category that has been spoken about :)

I am going by a rough timeline on her twitter. I am guessing (key word;)) she tweeted straight after the announcement. Further by going on her twitter time line, it seems that they were notified of intended plans within 10 minutes.
Guess Work I admit.

As for answering no, it makes sense that not all faults may be apparent. There have been accidents where faults only become apparent in certain circumstances.

Well that timeline is kind of ok. Reasonable guess. But still it doesn't tell you how long between scheduled departure time and when she first twitted. Lets say they boarded, door shut, phone turned off, pilot tries to start the engines - oh no hydraulic pressure, taps a few gauges, after 5 minutes gets on the blower and says "whato" to the ground dude, the ground dude gets on his blower to call an engineer, engineer finishes his coffee, gets up wanders over to the aircraft, has a look, sees massive pool of oil, wanders to the front of the aircraft, gets on the blower to the pilot - oil leak, pilot says "jolly poor show old bean", taps some gauges, flicks some switches, once finished the vital immediate pilot things makes the announcement - "Chaps, oil leak", cabin crew get on the blower to ground team to arrange alternative flights, Grant turns on her iphone, fires up twit-a, sends message.

I think it is a reasonable guess to says that might take 20 to 30 minutes to get to that point.

So basically you concluded no on the basis of no expertise. :p

Edit: did anyone notice this other Qantas bashing News Ltd story? http://www.couriermail.com.au/trave...r-security-scare/story-e6freqwo-1226053007533

The question I most want to be answered is :- "Why did I waste my time reading this tripe?"

So a minor celebrity is delayed by an aircraft that is deemed un-airworthy after all the passengers are on board. Newsworthy? NO.

She tweets the gist of this (you only get 140 characters to play with so everything has to be really dumbed down) to her sycophants. Newsworthy? NO.

A pathetic excuse for a news organisation picks this up to fill space that would otherwise and preferably had been blank. Newsworthy? NO.

The usual collection of wannabe experts tear her to shreds on AFF. Newsworthy?

It is good to see most the comments to the article are 'harden up princess' and along the lines of 'better to fix before take off than crash during flight'.

It would seem that even the general public are getting sick of the constant bashing.

I don't care which airline it is, report every incident no matter how small if you're truly 'impartial and unbiased' in reporting, and don't blow everything out of proportion.

Just my 2c :)

I'm glad you put the word discussion in inverted commas, because this thread certainly doesn't warrant that label. I would rather have more quality and less quantity, and in my opinion this sort of thread lowers the value of the site.
