Hi, if you get upgraded on air asia - do you get a refund on the pre-booked baggage and meals? Because the premium seats come with free meals and baggage allowance, so does airasia refund back what you had originally paid?

One would assume so or maybe your meal and pre booked baggage allowance could be added on to your upgrade!:D Best to call or facebook them to find out.

Welcome to AFF, with low cost carriers (LCC's), the normal assumptions don't apply, especially when it comes to refunds, I would suggest calling them to confirm.

I asked at the airport, they said no. Didn't really ask beyond that because it was $5 or something.

I tried the upgrade again for this saturday, and it's come through again. 2/2 so far ...

Makes you wonder how they expect people to pay for the full product at full price if it's that easy?

Each time i've grabbed the last seats, maybe I'm just lucky? I suspect an awful lot of pax don't know about it yet either. I never would have except for AFF, despite my frequent AK and D7 flying.

I've also put in for an upgrade returning into melbourne next month, fingers crossed for that one :)

Yes I'm trying this out for 2 legs going to London in May 2011. Mel-KUL and then KUL-STN. Expect it will be only a few days before the flights when we get the yea or nea.
KUL-STN we have front row hot seats with a few extras so if we get the upgrade don't expect any refunds there.

There's an article in the current Age Traveller section which gives the Air Asia premium seats a pretty good rap.

Airline review : AirAsia X premium class | Australia to London

The Optiontown upgrade costs are pretty reasonable. If you don't get the upgrade the non refundable membership fee is only a few bucks.

I have just applied for an upgrade on each leg of my flight to Perth next February. They showed cost of upgrade for each leg as £38 + £3 (KL-Perth) and £42 +£3 (Perth-KL). I am now waiting for their confirmation mail.

Did they tell you the time when they confirm your upgrade? Who's going to tell you about the upgrade Airasia or optiontown?

No - so far mine have been confirmed 2-3 days out. You get an email from optiontown, but airasia sends out an updated itinery shortly after as well.

That is a pretty fast upgrade, I must say. I called their customer care and i was pretty impressed with the way explained my every query. I found their customer care as one of the most effective and customer friendly.

Just applied for an upgrade KUL-STN on 20/02/11 for $176 +the $3 fee, don't have any booked bags or meals, hope it comes thru.

Welcome to the upgrade wagon :), even i have crossed my fingers for my Kl-Perth-Kl in February. Are you going for a return flight as well? I have also signed up for my return flight because i don't want to go in premium and return in economy ;)

I just got an email back from their customer service about the response time for my upgrade, they normally advise about the decision few days before departure but could notify me up to four hours before departure, to tell you truth I won't mind even if its one hour as long as I'm getting flat beds which I could never get otherwise.

I must follow your way of travel plan. You can save a lot. How log this offer stays?

This is a lottery right?
It has been mentioned that the earlier you purchase an upgrade the better chance you have.
I have purchased upgrades for flights in September 2011 but its my understanding that somebody could purchase an upgrade in during Aug and just have as much chance, no?

Have you signed up for the upgrade? I would say this is aleady an evergoing sale with optiontown. You can not think of anyother way of traveling in premium if you have tried them.

Since you would have signed up earlier then you will be given the preference for the upgrade. It is the general rule which applies everywhere.

So its not a 'lottery' per se.
Thanks crisg for the clarrification.
I am hopeful of getting it now since I have signed up and purchased so far in advanced.
Cheers.
