Hi Fellow Frequent Flyers,

I'm an avid collector of airline amenity kits and was recently surprised on-board Qantas Business with the new Florence Broadhurst kit. Has anyone else seen it? About time we got some good freebies on-board.

Has anyone else come across good kits recently?

Welcome to AFF, while I have not seen too many good airline kits lately, I must say the ones they give you in the suites at Intercontinentals in Australia are handy for a hotel offering (boring box), I often pack one in the carry on as insurance as it has non spray on deodorant etc.

For many years I have collected amenity kits (mainly economy) on various airlines but have noticed recently that the quality and the number of items inside have been declining.

I have an unopened ladies F amenity kit in my luggage at present complete with unworn F PJ's and slippers...

I'll be interested to see whats inside once I get home and hand over the bounty to Mrs. munitalP to go with her small collection of QF First kits scored over the years, usually when I am flying J (yeah, I beg the CSM for a F ladies kit)

I have a couple of QF J kits (male) from a couple of weeks ago, the ear plugs are missing otherwise untouched - in fact I have no idea whats in them, if you want, you can have (to the OP). I also have a couple of SQ J kits somewhere, same deal - I think bundybear may have scored one a while back, I would need to check

All my kits come courtesy of my dad, who seems to travel J a lot these days. There’s plenty of QF J PJ’s in this house now, and also a few CX F PJ’s, which are nice but a lot heavier (material wise).

I rarely see the amenity kits as dad practically raids them for what he wants and uses the cases to store other bits and pieces.

What is in them that anyone could possibly want, especially if you've had one or two? How many eye-shades,sox,toothbrushes can you use?

Best use for them AFAIAC is as gifts - occasionally the outer pack has some use.

Generally the expensive moisturisers he seems to get in them, and things like that. Lip balm is especially useful when he gets to NZ in the winter :p

I agree that the insides are pretty ordinary but they make good make-up / toiletry bags with the exception of that hideous green CD case thing that QF used to have

Go back to 2001/2002 the green canvas type bag for J - now they were good! I still have a couple in top condition, great for computer cables, camera batteries etc

Are the CX pjs still Shanghai Tang (black with green outlines?

I also have a couple of SQ J kits somewhere, same deal - I think bundybear may have scored one a while back, I would need to check

I think you'll find the SQ "kit" is only a pair of socks...they rest of the stuff is either in the bathroom or on request (eg ear plugs)

...definitely the worst J pack out there.

Finnair J kit (circa 2008) is still my carry-on/emergency toiletries kit for every international flight. Perfect size, and plenty of compartments. Best amenity bag I've ever seen on an airline.

New QF ones are OK, but nothing to write home about. Not a fan of the Malin+Goetz stuff either. Better than the old plastic boxes! Not sure if I like the current J kit more than the previous one though.

CX have Zegna bags in F now apparently. Was crossing my fingers for a J->F upgrade last week but it didn't happen. The J kit was OK - sturdy, good zipper...will make a good pack to keep power adapters all together. :)

Cheers,
- Febs.

Give most away but keeping at least one set for self the nice Q F black satin case (thought the native plants and birds on older style quite attractive) kept for self but give Payot Paris products to Sis in law.

Tossed BA old card board boxing away and keep insides but am look looking forward to the new Anya Hindmarch product in Jan.

CX pretty bag but not too familiar with products.

Had 2006/2007 J products most containers were cloth bag style which I have been using as shoes bags for travel.

I thought I'd criticise QF amenity kits a lot until I realise that other airlines aren't doing a hell of a good job anyway.

I scored a UA J kit on this journey. It is bland. LX J kits aren't much better - plastic-ish shoe bag; OS J kits look nice but are slightly impractical.

I think I saw some discarded SQ J kits as I disembarked from the 388 flight in NRT. It just looks like a light blue shoe bag - embarrassing for an airline of its reputation.

VS J kits are a joke. I sincerely hope their VA companions do a far better job in their J.

Y kits are absolutely nothing to write home about any more. They are usually glorified zip lock bags. SQ must be trying to insult people by offering flimsy-ish cases that say "by Givenchy" on the front, but on the inside there is absolutely nothing from Givenchy: just a toothbrush and socks (which I doubt are Givenchy).

Whilst most people have a strong contrary opinion, I do like the Anya Hindmarch bags in BA F.

Thank goodness someone agrees with me :)
I also liked the previous navy velvet Anya Hindmarch bag it now serves as a manicure case at the Shrek residence. IMHO BA are streets ahead of QF in F amenities. I also agree with previous comments that in general the standard kit in all classes is on a downward spiral.

I use CX Anges B kits as my travel case for cables/usb/etc - perfect size as well.

Personally I dont use much of the stuff and I would prefer that the sox/shades/shaver be optional as they go straight from the kit to the bin in the hotel.

On big trips with just hand luggage I often struggle to keep all the liquids as they rapidly fill up my 1L bag...

One of the more interesting kits I got was on Lauda, the condom was novel!
