HBA - BNE Direct flights starting

What is old is new, DJ must be taking some share there. Handy option for BNE based QFF members, helps keep the QP in existence.

Doesn't make much sense to me.

"DJ taking their share?" Fat chance - they've had the share for the whole time QF withdrew from the route! QF would be lucky to have some redeeming share on indirects, e.g. via SYD and MEL. Apart from that, and QF's more or less very busy MEL-HBA shuttle, it's pretty much been DJ keeping HBA well and truly on the map.

Only coincidence here is the Christmas and peak holiday season. And I'm guessing they're going to be operated by the 734s. Where is QF getting this capacity.....

A damn fine shame too. BNE-HBA is 1111 mi. A mere 89 more miles and you'd get an extra 5 SCs in dY, 10 in full Y and 20 in J.

But 6 weeks hardly seems worth it? Is summer really that busy?

Trying to fly into Hobart from Boxing Day until mid January can be a very expensive & difficult exercise - unless you plan well in advance.
Hotels are usually at full occupancy & rental cars hard to come by.
Don't know where they all come from.

Competition is competition, they are taking their share from the indirect offerings of both JQ and QF. Does that make sense, I know they had a 100% load last Friday back and interestingly the previous Tuesday down! As to where the capacity is coming from, think it through.......A380s replacing 747s replacing A330s replacing 767s replacing 737s.

Absolutely, QF sometimes even double their flights into LST on busy summer peak days! Tassie is really busy in summer.

LST gets a lot more love from QF group than HBA... I know there have been some public fights over high costs at HBA...

Does not make any sense to me.

I would not have thought the demand was there. But what do I know about airline schedules?

Makes perfect sense! Summer holidays, school holidays, absolute tourism peak time for Tasmania.

LST-BNE flights have worked...

This is the same airline that put on flights just for when the Hawks were playing in tassie.

Not only to Melbourne for the Hawks and fans but also to Brisbane for the lions and on and on.... LST see a ton of special QF flights and some weird and wonderful flight numbers!!

Sure... on a milk run. :)

What? They already have one. Sure, it's the size of a generous city office and it's all self-serve, but so there.
Maybe at MKY but QF havent been at MCY for some time and the lounge also long gone.

Whoops, my mistake.

Probably the only hopes for places to get new lounges are:
  • Needs QF metal to fly there
  • Must be one of:
    • Close to a mining operation (or operations)
    • A very populous city

So MCY gets rubbed off on all those counts.

Did they ever have one?? OT but MKY at least has Vasse Felix minis, almost made up for flying JQ to get home two weeks ago!

Yes there was a lounge but not actually sure it was a QP.A long long time ago I began a RTW from MCY.

Interstingly JQ used to op HBABNE but withdrew.Currently DJ have a nice monopoly on HBABNE & JQ do LSTBNE on their own non stop.
As QF wind back business frequencies over the Dec-Jan Hol period they usually have spare planes available.
For me, even though I'm SYD based, its nice to see QF metal expanding on routes again. CBRDRW/MELDRW and seasonal flying to HBA I hope is just the start.I'm sure when DJ up their onboard product to sit closer to QF you'll see the QF brand back into places like OOL as well.
