Hi all, just wondering whether any of you know the hours of operation for Changi airport?

I'm considering arriving in the evening (QF31), popping into town (Singapore) for a bit to eat and to catch up with some friends before heading back to the airport (around 1/2 am) to catch some zzz's at the airport's transit hotel before a morning flight onwards to my destination.

I'm concerned that if I rock up to the airport and try to clear customs at 1/2 am to get to the transit hotel, I'll be turned away...

Changi is open 24 hours.

You can head out of the airport while you are in transit but you can only come back in airside if you already have a boarding pass for next flight or you go through check-in for next flight. Check-in for most airlines does not open until 3 hours before flight.

I think Changi is pretty much 24 hours. Not sure if this applies to immigration (i.e. if there are times there are no flights) but IIRC there is at least one lounge airside that is open 24 hours (so unless that is only for sterile transit passengers...)

Some shops are open 24 hours, according to the FAQ on Changi's website.

Thanks John. I guess then (given I'm looking at a 3K onward flight) I should look to get a boarding pass when checking in for QF31. Hopefully this is possible!!

Does Qantas issue boarding passes for Jetstar Asia flight?

Another issue could be that Jetstar Asia operates from the budget terminal in SIN and there is no airside hotel there from memory.

Do you have any checked luggage? Where are you going? May not be so easy to get into Singapore for a few hours. You will need to leave your checked luggage in storage (quite cheap) and then come back to collect it again.

Jetstar do operate from Terminal 1 and AFAIK dont interline with QF at SIN, so you will need to recheck which will take some time, and please note check in for 3K opens tow hours before departure!

Jetstar dont operate from Terminal 1

I travelled with 3K HKG-SIN and SIN-SGN-SIN in Feb via T1... also from Jetstar website

What terminal to go to
International Jetstar and Valuair flights

  • Singapore - Changi Airport - Terminal 1

Sorry, I meant to say they dont operate from the Budget terminal, they operate from Terminal 1.

Isn't Jetstar Asia operating from Changi T1?

That's what I thought too according to Cheap flights - Jetstar Airways

I'm planning on heading to KL for a long weekend, so will only have carry-on with me. Even if I did have check-in luggage, I would have thought that I could check straight through to my final destination (??)

Qantas won't be able to print out both BP's? Now that's a concern. I'll have to give them a shout before (if) I decide to go ahead with this booking.

Can you check in online and print out the boarding pass if QF doesn't give you the 3K one? (I haven't tried this though)

You can also use their (pretty cheap) left baggage service before heading to town if your carry-on is big.

I think its safe to say you will have to re check:

Thanks for your help guys! Looks like you're right.

I'll prob try fly with MH as they allow web-check in. I wonder if they will print the BP for SIN-KUL at Kingsford Smith airport...!! A 'proper' boarding pass will look less dodgy than an A4 printed piece of paper

Apologies. I have been looking as some flights for later in the year and I thought I saw Jetstar Asia operate from budget terminal. It must have been another carrier.

You may have to carry around the dodgy A4 printed piece of paper.

This actually poses an interesting question, as I've checked in & boarded using paper passes at SIN before, but never on INT's dep PER.

The self-printed paper BP's are normally stamped by the check-in agent to authenticate, which is then checked by the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) staff upon entry to airside.

If the BP was self-printed offshore, would you run into problems with ICA staff if you left then returned to airside with a printed BP less the authenticating stamp? Do all international check-in desk have stamps for flights departing Aus which would cover this scenario? Anyone able to answer?

From Transit FAQs, point 4 reads as

4. If I clear Customs & Immigration upon my arrival in Singapore and have a connecting flight out of Singapore, when can I re-enter the transit area?
You will only be able to re-enter the Transit Hall if you are holding the boarding pass of your flight out of Singapore issued by the airline or a self-printed boarding pass which has been endorsed by the airline. Please note that if you leave the transit area without a valid boarding pass for your departing flight, you will only be able to check-in for your connecting flight when your airline starts its check-in operations in the Departure Hall. Check-in counters generally open at least 2 hours before flight departure. Please check with your airline for the exact opening time of check-in counters. For further queries, you may approach any of the Information Counters at the airport for assistance.

So it seems that self-printed BP's will need to be endorsed (makes sense really). I guess I'll just have to go to the Transit desk to get an MH BP prior to clearing customs. Either that, or somehow manage to convince MAS in Kingsford Smith airport to endorse my dodgy A4...

When does MH transit desk close in SIN airport? It may close after last MH flight of the night which may be before QF31 gets in to SIN. I am having a similar issue with a CX-CX overnight connection in SIN in June.

Either that, or somehow manage to convince MAS in Kingsford Smith airport to endorse my dodgy A4...
I don't think this is possible.

An easy solution might be just to stay at the Crowne Plaza in Terminal 3. Only takes a few minutes to get across to T1 in the morning

That perhaps makes sense as to why Cathay's online check-in failed for me on an ex-SIN leg.

I think the only likely ways this may work is:
- MH ex SIN, See if airside transit can issue the BP (not overly likely, but possible)
- MH has early check-in available until 8:50pm landside, but I presume QF31 will arrive later than that.
- Use landside (or airside) baggage storage, then hang out landside until check-in opens (MH 04:30)
