New layout (good things and improvements)

There is a thread about the bugs so I thought we should highlight what things we actually like about the new lay out. Only good things, praise in this thread please.

I’m liking the funky new sidebar with the recent posts displayed prominently in it, and the blogs features seems pretty good, I can see that being used a lot more in the future.

Had to at the tag cloud showing that “qantas” is the most tagged word

YQY posted a photo today that showcased another new feature of vBulletin 4. Clicking the photo in the following post (#175) opens it in the same window, fading everything else, which is quite a cool and useful effect I’ve seen on other websites.

Not a bad feature, although a bit of a danger for those with memory limited devices who click on the image (if they are using PC mode).

Can't believe a thread like this would ever appear, given the sentiments going around about the changes!

Some features of note:

• When you reply to a thread, the title bar reflects the name of the thread you are replying to (cf. old system where the title bar always was "The Australian Frequent Flyer - Reply To Topic")
• Deleting a post can be easily handled without needing to proceed to "Go Advanced" editing
• More softer, pleasant and calming interface (*flame shield on*)

Yep - it's good... a step in the right direction.

When I first found AFF a year or two ago I thought it was an old haggard site that had that "90's" feel to it - hated it at first, but got used to it quickly and adapted to the format. Now, I find myself in the same boat: i'm sure I will get to like it... eventually.

Yup, the photo was roughly the same size though, so you didn’t miss much on that photo.

Just noticed at the bottom of the community page todays events now shows what’s in the calendar, so AFF drinks in BNE pops up as a nice reminder.

Hi all,

Love the new improvement I just noticed. Abreviations are now underlined and when you put the mouse over it you get the info.

Just like airliners.net and a great addition to the website.

I saw that too, and I’m wondering what abbreviations have been chosen. So the next paragraph might be a bit rambling

CX AA NZ BA DJ S7 QF NB PS SG WP CL QP OW *A OWR OWS OWE *G FF SYD BNE MEL ADL QFF umm what else?

Edit: And of course I see only QF and FF work.

Edit 2: And I see a few more were added, should be useful next time a new member gets a lot of abbreviated replies and doesn’t understand!

At one stage AA BA DJ NZ and others were all showing, but some perhaps could have been used in another context so they’re no longer underlined. I guess it’s about finding the right mix of abbreviations to use.

Tried the new “default” layout and didn’t find it too bad, obviously it’s not much difference to this, just a slightly different colour scheme around posts and such. But I’m going to have to stick with the normal theme for my browsing.

The "default" layout is the standard vBulletin layout. It contains no advertisements and is therefore available to GOLD and SILVER members only

You mean like some of the weird abbreviations people continue to use such as TT and TA?
