My fellow pax

The person who stands behind the:

  • The, ‘I’ve just got to my seat now I’ll start to organise my fifteen carry-on pieces before sitting down’ aisle blocker. Bonus points when they sit down then immediately decide they need to take off a piece of clothing and store it with their overhead carry on.
And doesn’t say ‘excuse me, can I get past?’

We once had a screaming kid the whole way from SYD to HNL. You can imagine our dismay when they were also on our return flight a week later 😭
Yeah but that's always going to happen when you take your children with you. (Just joking. I'm sure the cat family is very travel nuanced in travel etiquette )
Travelling J or F does not immune you to a screaming toddler!!
It's worse because parents (in our experience) don't give a damn.

I don't think we've had the seat pullerer backer as they get out of their seat, then to release it with a whack back when they are out (I think airline seats are designed to make this happen.

Given how well our two handled the epic four flight trip to the States this year when our flights were cancelled, with missed flights and not a lot of sleep, I have full confidence in them 😂

Starts intently looking for seat 38D whilst passing row 1.

Counterpoint on this one

They are looking for the location of the seat row numbers. This can vary between aircraft and airlines.

Makes sense to orient yourself as soon as you have entered the aircraft, and work out where to look, so that you can easily spot it when you get closer to your row.

People do the same thing in cinemas and sport stadiums.

YMMV

True, but… are you holding a business class boarding pass? If not… move on!

It could be confusing when rows aren’t sequential, so airlines routinely starting their business cabin at row 11 for example, and economy at row whatever. But confusing class of service is a bit harder 🤣

Theatres and statia are a bit different… don’t always go A->Z or 1-> …. you often have AA-?? before or after the regular seat rows, and boxes, and side seats! 😳

And after they have looked at the first 2 rows of seats for the first number why do they have to keep looking at every row?
No row 28 will come after row27 not row 12.

You’d think, right? but no.

On sydney trains now the message approaching a station is that ‘doors will open on the left side…. in the direction of travel’

Obviously people were having difficulty understanding ‘left side’ and so they needed to add the clarification. 🤷‍♂️

Add the loud talker…the passengers who can hold a long conversation throughout the flight that no nc headphone can handle.

And the passenger with check-in luggage phobia. The older or shorter person who always requires help to lift their 20kg carry on into the overhead locker, or the parent who needs pram, baby bag, own suitcase and another personal item to make a juggling set whilst holding child, or the person who clearly doesn’t think the bag size restrictions applies to them.

London here we come!

Well I mean you have to look somewhere right? Why not count down the rows to an exit (as we are relentlessly reminded to do, during safety briefings) instead of staring at the sweaty back of the person in front of you...

Also note many airlines skip rows 13 and 14, some skip 4 and 17, and some skip entire blocks of rows for fleet standardisation reasons. Delta skips from row 3 to 10 on some aircraft.

There is method in the madness.

I feel you have missed the point here. They know they are not in J. They are trying to spot where on the bulkhead/overheads, the row/seat numbers are printed on this particular aircraft, so that they don't hold everyone up trying to locate it when they get to their section. This varies between aircraft.

Nothing wrong with a bit of forward planning, especially when you have nothing else to do while being held up by others walking ahead of you. The 6 P's!

What about the people who talk with their hands/arms - I was in an isle whY seat earlier this year MEL-PER and the middle seat pax spent the entire flight talking to the window seat pax with arms and hands frequently waving around and moving between my eyes and the screen of my tablet. :(

This is where ye olde broadsheet comes in handy 😉
