I have 2 flights booked from MEL to DPS using Virgin Atlantic flights and also have a seperate Flight booked Domestic from DPS to CGK, Both flights are in J and connection time of about 3 hours

My questions are

1. Can I somehow merge the 2 flights together to ensure that I dont need to collect baggage in DPS and re-check in?
2. Will I be forced to collect baggage in DPS due to immigration (assuming I need to do it in DPS) or will they get check all the way through?
3. Will CGK domestic just let you clear or can they inspect bags?

1. It is very unlikely rather impossible to merge the 2 seperate flights together. But you can likely check the baggage through CGK (baggage interline agreement) if the ckeck-in agent in MEL is willing and able to do so. (no garantee)

2. You will be only forced to collect baggage in DPS if it will be not checked trough. However immigration will be anyway in DPS.

3. If your baggage will be checked trough customs is in CGK. Otherwise in DPS.

Posting in this thread for an answer to my question if I may.

Have QF CR J flights to CGK in June, then looking at a short hop to DPS return.
Obviously I will stay the 1st night in CGK.

Looking at CGK DPS return, J fares are over $2k, Y sub $400.
Question : Does Garuda offer paid Y to J upgrades at check in?
I would choose their A330 flight.
Any experience is much appreciated..

They do, but they’re no longer competitively priced (I once paid ~AUD15 to upgrade on a domestic GA flight). Expect to pay in the hundreds of $.

At CGK you go to the far right hand end (domestic) end of T3. There is a GA office there that can process upgrades.

Now, if you choose the not cheapest Y flights, might be called Y comfort, you get seat selection for free and can choose front of Y bulkhead seats.

Agree there. Seems the days of the cheap upgrades are long gone with GA.
Last time we did DPS-CGK route it was about $180 in Y and $1100 in J one way. if I recall and we flew on the 777. Only 5 of us in the J cabin and I overheard someone on the lounge say that they wanted $600 to upgrade.
VS awards even when not on special would cost you about $450 for J but they seem to only release 1x J seat each flight on that rout these days

Do you mean far left as you exit the terminal? I imagine you do.
Well I mean far right hand end as you enter…because @Flyfrequently is overnighting in Jakarta and would be entering the terminal for the domestic flight.

How about we just say near the domestic check in counters near pillar F.

Actually that prompted me to remember SQ wanted ~$700 to upgrade DPS - SIN in 2019 @jase05.
This princess drew the line at that back then but I'm 7 years older now 😉
With 2 of us, may as well fork out the original ~$2k, might see if I can just get CR seats released for DPS as destination.

Thanks for the feedback @Scarlett @clifford
