No China Eastern reward availability on the Qantas website

Trip.com will allow you to book, unless you have a stop over generally only the 11pm flights are on offer

I've been searching flights to PVG recently for upcoming trip and have spotted a whole bunch of MU awards (minimal in J though) for various routes to PVG again.

Perhaps whatever the problem was with MU and QF have been fixed and there's more potential awards again available to QFF.

Yes - I've similarly seen substantial availability on PVG-HKG early next year. Seem to be quite a number of J seats available on that route.

Weirdly, MU availability only seems to appear on the regular search and not the multi-city search at all.

Before the hiatus, it was actually the opposite. So putting these into a multi city trip might require a call - assuming they can even see the same availability over the phone.

Just tested this, and you're right. Well that's annoying!

Maybe something to do with city pairs? I was searching AKL - PVG and it showed on the multi city.

How does one select seats on MU from QF redemption now days?
There’s a hack using Czech airlines….

That should be gone now. Czech Airlines ceased operations last year.

Does the Saudia website work?
It pulls up the PNR but no seat selection allowed:

Seats, extras, AlFursan Miles, and mileage upgrades are only available on Saudia-operated flights. Check your baggage allowance here.

To add a useful data point for those interested, this was my experience booking a classic reward on China Eastern in the past few days:

Over the past fortnight, I'd been looking at booking a China domestic flight (SHA-XIY). There were ample seats visible on search (multiple flights a day across several days).

Then, a few hours after I last saw all that availability, I went on to book. It had all disappeared. There were no seats visible, either through regular search or multi-city. However, the QF call centre could see the availability and assisted me with making the booking.

So I'd suggest it's worth making a call and asking, in the event you can't find desired availability online.

Also, I'd recommend emailing [email protected] for seat selection. They helpfully got it done in a few hours for me. Couldn't do it online using the QF PNR or 081 ticket no.
