I need to make a flight booking on the Finnair website (finnair.com/au-en) for a return Sydney to Helsinki flight priced in AUD. Finnair charges 1% for Mastercard payments but I want to avoid paying an additional 3.5% FX fee to my credit card provider (Citibank) if Finnair process this payment anywhere but Australia. I tried ringing Finnair for clarification but I was still in the queue after more than an hour when I accidentally ended the call.

Has anyone recently booked on Finnair and were they charged an FX fee? What was the narrative on the statement? Did it show as processed in Australia?

Been a while (just before COVID) but pretty sure my last direct booking from Oz to Europe was priced in AUD and charged without Int fee.

However, I think some banks have started passing on those fees more recently - WCMO…

Did you ask the same Q re QR? They definitely don’t (ie processed in Oz). In fact, you can book Asia to Europe (return) priced in AUD without any further fees!

Yes I did. However we have decided to leave one day earlier and the QR prices doesn't work for that day but AY do. I had interesting phone call with QR customer service where no-one understood my question - just kept telling me to ask my bank!

I suspect that wouldn’t have a clue….

I commented on your other thread in case someone else is looking for the same info.
