Unless the car gets better this year and/or Flavio Briatore leaves - I think Gasly will start exploring his options at the end of the season - in my opinion he is a fairly talented driver and I would like to see him in a better car to see what he could do. He must be getting sick of this as well.

I still think Renault have stuck Flavio there with a remit to make Alpine seem more attractive to potential buyers so that Renault can sell the remainder of their stake in the team and finally - and completely - leave the building. It's still a joke that the man was allowed to return to a management role within an F1 team given his shady history. And of all the teams to welcome him back into the fold, it still beggars belief that it was Alpine (Renault)????

Would love to know more details about the reasons behind Oakes' departure. Obviously we can all speculate (looking at you, Flav....), but unless it comes from the horse's mouth, it's nothing more than speculation. With his departure, the writing was sadly on the wall for young Jack. Flav has never liked Doohan and it's no surprise that at the first opportunity, he's ousted him from the seat. To Jack's credit, he's handled this latest blow, along with the rest of his challenging season thus far, with great professionalism. Frankly, Alpine's management doesn't deserve it, but Jack will earn respect from the non-dodgy Alpine team members, his fellow drivers, and other prospective employers.

As for the Gas-man? I'm sure he'll be keeping his options open.

"Sources close to the former World Rally champion and Dakar winner said that several key figures from within the motorsport world have approached him about running against Ben Sulayem, the current FIA president.

Autosport understands that Sainz, the father of Williams Formula 1 driver Carlos Sainz, is now seriously considering whether to stand against Ben Sulayem, whose tenure as president of F1’s governing body has been marred by controversy."

Another calm and measured performance from Oscar, P1

And whilst I would never wish harm on a driver, I wasn't too upset when Colapinto managed to put the Alpine in the wall. Might quieten the noisy online Argentinians for a moment.

RB must be wondering about Yuki now....
Wonder what RIC is doing, feet up, sipping a beer....

Edit to add, also rather refreshing having a break from Crofty in the commentary box.

Max- i mean Franz Hermann - drove a pretty nuts pace. Not sure if RB brought upgrades to imola or if its something else with the McLarens but max was out front and pacing better.

Feel Oscar got a bit hard done by the strategy, but he did also make the mistake onto turn 2 which gave max the lead. Fun little fight between him and lando at the end.

Nice to see a bit more life with Lewis and the Ferrari's and the Williams seem to be starting to get into the groove. Although we can definitely see the early stop was the wrong choice with both charles and sainz struggling like oscar at the end.

RBR did bring upgrades. Per a recent Autosport.com article -:

In Miami, the RB21 was equipped with a revised floor, and this is to be paired with a reshaped set of sidepods in Imola; the team has taken a different approach to its inlet arrangement, bringing it slightly more in line with that of McLaren.

Red Bull followed its previous RB20 with its sidepod design by recessing the inlet into the undercut bodywork, where the 'overbite' leading edge fully blends into the rest of the sidepod profile.

The team has now partially detached this overbite and has extended the outer tip further beyond the sidepod - the mirror is now attached at this point. The actual sidepod inlet has been set back to fit in line with the additional vertical inlet seen on the sides of the chassis - creating a P-shaped inlet altogether.

Red Bull says this offers "a re-optimisation of the inlet, surrounding geometry and stays to gain overall aerodynamic efficiency".

The team has also registered a revised fairing for one of its rear suspension members, plus revised wheel bodywork and ducts at the rear corner of the car to further boost the RB21's aero performance.

PIA was too conservative into the Tamburello chicane, but I don't think that the race was lost there. Max's pace was very good and that medium tyre really didn't look like it was going to hold on. Whilst he was undoubtedly slowed by them in terms of ultimate race pace, PIA made good progress through the traffic. Sadly the VSC killed his race and pretty much locked in a win for old "Franz". I've heard reports that PIA was "screwed over" by McLaren's strategy in not pitting him under the full SC, but PIA said post-race that he had no fresh tyres, so pitting under the SC wasn't really an option. Good racing with NOR at the end, but I think this was ultimately one of those races like Suzuka where Max was just on top of his game and RBR got the car dialed in just right for race day. Still, solid points haul for Oscar to keep the Championship lead ticking over with minimal loss to his rivals.

It was a hard choice, they pitted to try and undercut max thinking he'd need to pit soon too. But the mediums held. Also the slow pits from McLaren didn't help at all. I think both of his stops were ~3.5s.

VSC definitely killed any chance and poor Lando pitted one lap too early.

The full SC basically you could see the difference between those that pitted early (PIA, LEC, SAI etc) not having new rubber and those that didn't.

Shaping up to be a 3 way drivers this year.

I think PIA played turn 2 smart, actually. There is no way Max was going to back off... the past few races have showed that, so PIA backing off was the smarter thing to do, to avoid another potential collision.

Yet again NOR came out best by being the 2nd car, as he was further back and able to save his tyres better by not being in such turbulent air.

Arguable - if Oscar sent it, he was so far ahead of Max that Max would've either been pushed way off or fall even further behind than George. In terms of collision probably more likely to run into George than Oscar with their positions

I suspect Oscar also saw how much he was ahead and didn't think Max was about to go around the outside and possibly instead focused a little on George who was roaring up behind him (I think George definitely had the speed advantage on both Max and Oscar).

Either way well played to Max.

That said I don't think anyone in the grid throught that in clean air the McLaren's couldn't mow max down. Which was what happened. Lando with clean air wasn't gaining anything at all on Max.
 
Great drive by Max....don't mind Oscar playing the long game and backing out....think Max had a point to prove, so maybe a wise move to yield. And a decent points haul.
Qualifying extremely critical next weekend before Sunday's parade around Monaco.
