Platinum Charge. What card would that be? If Platinum Charge, then the Amex response seems a bit odd.
Why should a business offer a pro-rata refund of the annual fee?Qantas Premiere – they gave me a long list of reasons about why they can't refund half the cost after six months, including all the perks I've since used up. Fair enough; just thought I'd ask but, in short, their answer was 'no'.
Fair question. Why should a business offer a pro-rata refund of the annual fee?
Not true. On Amex Platinum Charge, the points earned are typically credited to your account within 2-3 days. So at most you'd only lose 2-3 days worth of points if you cancel at that pointIf you cancel the day before your annual fee is due, you lose all the reward points for that final month.
Sure but that’s not a credit card and the post I replied to was about the Qantas Premier card …Not true. On Amex Platinum Charge, the points earned are typically credited to your account within 2-3 days. So at most you'd only lose 2-3 days worth of points if you cancel at that point
OK. So, it’s HUACA I’d say.Platinum Charge.
My experience is that you can cancel up to a month after AF is charged and they will refund the annual fee!Fair question.
How about: Why should a business charge an annual fee?
The way annual fees work on credit cards means it’s very hard to get 12 months (i.e. an annum) of value out of it. If you cancel the day before your annual fee is due, you lose all the reward points for that final month. If you cancel a month before, you loose a month’s access to the facility you’re paying an annual fee for.
This was confirmed to me on live chat a few days ago - have not had time to call up yet (they wouldn't let me do it over the chat). My experience is that you can cancel up to a month after AF is charged and they will refund the annual fee
i heard they gonna use chq before - not sure if it is still the caseThis was confirmed to me on live chat a few days ago - have not had time to call up yet (they wouldn't let me do it over the chat).
I have a zero balance in anticipation of cancelling, and the AF was paid for in a statement just past.
Does anyone know how they will refund this if there are no charges to offset ?
Thats why i chose greenCharge card. Annual fee just posted. Second year in a row no points on offer. Only a downgrade to gold or green card.
Agent seemed surprise to hear that the Amex Experiences app is totally pointless.
Manila?Just attempted to get a retention offer for my Platinum. Straight refusal …
Yes, I called just before the post. Last time I spoke to a local bloke who did give a retention offer. When I brought it up he said, "theres nothing available for your account" and that "we don't really offer those [retention offers] anymore"Manila?
Green is your choice mate.Yes, I called just before the post. Last time I spoke to a local bloke who did give a retention offer. When I brought it up he said, "theres nothing available for your account" and that "we don't really offer those [retention offers] anymore"

Benefits of gold over green? I did some research and from what I found, gold gets hotel collection but NOT fhr, and it has higher insurance limits. Couldn’t find any benefits other than those for the gold over the green.Just attempted to get a retention offer for my Platinum. Straight refusal, offered Gold card or Green card instead. I mentioned that the dining credit and amazon prime credit end in 2025 and renew on calendar year which means my June renewal will have me paying $1450 for a card which won't be able to use the $400 dining credit or $84 Amazon Prime credit.
1. $210 Gold Card + $65 for every additional card holder
2. $160 Green Card + $45 for every additional card holder
New card numbers. no additional credit checks. However one concering point he made that I can't verify is that upgrading back to a platinum may not be possible unless invited to do so. If no upgrade offer exists at the time you have to simply apply for it again on the standard amex webpage.
The person I spoke to said that Gold has better insurance than Green. Did not mention the hotel collection. The earn rate of gold/green is 1.5 points per dollar not the Plat 2.25 points per dollar. He said they would simply carry over my plat points, so I assume they're still ascent premium although I did not expressly confirm that.Benefits of gold over green? Is the points earn on gold / green the same as the plat btw? And are they ascent premium points?
Might try again closer to my renewal.HUACA
