I was reading through this and it made me think, how many airlines actually have them anymore?

BA has gotten rid of theirs, I think. They send it out via e-mail once a month. What I didn't notice (but also didn't look for) was whether it was available in-flight when you connected to the in-flight WiFi. I'll have to check.

What are Qantas doing?

What have you noticed on other airlines?

Yep still a thing at QF. Physical not Digital.

There was no IFE or wifi on one flight today and the program I'd downloaded from paramount was having issues, so I did all the puzzles (crossword, sudoku, find a word, scramble) and quizes in the in-flight mag.

Always like to read it, and sometimes take it home.

Don't fly as much now I am retired so no longer think it should be weekly. :)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

IIRC the QF mag has been monthly for decades. Pre-internet/Dr Google I thought they were a great source of info and idea and always took them home.

Nowadays, for domestic at least, I tend to be on my phone playing a card or word game or snoozing.

This was something I noticed in the latest QF safety video that they mentioned you can find info on DVT in your Qantas magazine. Seems like QF's magazine isn't going anywhere for about 4 years because that's how long the last safety video lasted for.

Yeah, I've noticed some airlines ditching the in-flight magazines. BA switched to emailing them, and I'm not sure if it's still available on in-flight WiFi.

I've got quite a gap to my next BA flight so if I remember in a few weeks will report back.

While the mags are still profitable (ie. Advertising pays for the printing and content) they'll stay.

While distribution/printing costs would drop by going online/IFE I suspect advertising also drops.

Spot the differences?
No I'm not a child

Only a 2 hour flight so allow 20 mins till my downloaded program when kaput on my tablet, 20 mins for meal the crosswords, 3* sudoku, find a word and jumble were enough to fill in the time.

I normally wouldn't do a find-a-word but you had to solve the clues before looking for the words and they were all 90s Musicians/Bands very much my era.

I'm ever only done to Sudoku and crosswords on the magazine. Everything else is fluff useless

Fixed that for you (* Except the in-flight health and safety bits, I guess)

How much money do the airlines make from the Magazine advertising?

I would say heaps, given that (from memory) the first 20 pages or so were occupied by luxury goods adverts that the airline can almost guarantee will receive a great many eyeballs over the month.
