SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

I did something really dumb, let a J reward flight from SYD -> AMS fly by in Feb. Should I book individual legs in PE/J or wait with hopes it may be refreshed?

Does VA periodically add J tickets every now and again or once they are gone they're gone?

I don't think it is controlled by VA in any case and it is solely dependent on when SQ wants to release more tickets , which are available to velocity members.

So in late May 2022 I booked 2 x F Savers MEL-SIN-FRA on 777 for our annual EU holiday. At a later date 777 subbed to 380 on SIN-MEL route starting May 17, 2023 - the exact date the F Savers I booked.

Early in Dec 2022 I booked 2 x F Adv MEL-SIN-LAX on 777 dep MEL Nov 20, 2023 for a 50th bday party for one of my nieces who is now a Yank citizen. Originally the 380 MEL rotation was scheduled to end Oct 25 or so but SQ decided to extend to tomorrow Nov 21, 2023.

So with 2 strokes of a pen keyboard and we had 2 X 2 pax F bookings upgraded to R - the 1st day of 380 rotation and 2nd last day of 380 rotation - amazing coincidence? SQ gods smiled apon us huh?

This is great when traveling with your partner, F to R makes a big difference if can score double bed which is indeed significant upgrade.

I had few of those 777 to 380 swaps post covid (twice Ex FRA and once Ex HKG) but always x1 so honestly not that exciting. I know most will disagree but I love F as much as R when traveling solo.

Just booked another F Saver SYD-LHR for Oct next year and trying to search for return in Oct/Nov (either to MEL or SYD) but there is zero availability. Wonder if SQ is blocking award seats again 🤔

F is First class on 777
R is Suites class on 380

And for further explanation, R used to be the booking class used to exclusively book Suites on the A380's in the first few years of their use, instead of F and A class. After some time and the exclusivity of Suites wore off, at the time PE was introduced on SQ, R was redesignated as (the lowest) booking class for premium economy, and Suites bookings are now just made in "regular" first class inventory F and A.

Bottom line, people do still refer to R class as suites, but if you actually booked an R coded fare via your travel agent you would be sorely disappointed in where you ended up sitting on the plane 🤣

Moral of the story, don’t use travel agent to book flights 😛

Well done Cruiser Elite - enjoy !

I booked suites ( 1 & 2 for the double ) for our next ski trip to Italy, but we need to fly domestically to Sydney to depart and suffer a 14 hour layover in Singapore on the way home. The messing around though doesn't really worry me 'cause after all it's all about the journey.

I don't know about you but I am finding more and more that long layovers are becoming common with reward bookings.
