UK and Europe 4 month sojourn!

We’re back in Edinburgh now and it’s wet, extremely windy and cold. We‘re off to Paris tomorrow (Saturday 21st) for the Sth Africa v England semi and then on Sunday head off for a 5 day driving trip to Dijon, Burgundy, Annecy and exploring around these areas, before heading back to Paris for the Bronze Final on the 28th. We then head back to Edinburgh on the 29th for 6 days before we head to London and start the trip back to Aus, so decided to book a a trip to Malta for 3 nights for hopefully a bit of sunshine and warmer weather. Will keep you updated.

If you want a good coffee in Valletta this is the best and nice central location

A tight win to Sth Africa in the semi final defeating England by one point! The grand final is now New Zealand v Sth Africa and should be a cracker. Don’t have tickets to this game unfortunately but will be back in Paris and will head to Rugby Village or a local bar.

We departed a wet Paris to arrive in a sunny Dijon 3 1/2 hours later. Check in wasn’t till a bit later so we stopped for a cheeky beer.

Our accommodation is a 2 bedroom loft apartment as son and his partner are joining us. Quite roomy and close to everything.

Dijon at night on our way to dinner.

Dinner was at Pre Aux Clercs and we all went with the set menu. I had the Blue Flower Potato, Tuna and Like a Creme Brûlée (see menu photo below). Mrs Scash had the other set menu choice and all were absolutely delicious. A glass of Cremant to start followed by a nice red.

On day to in Dijon we woke to rain. The kids decided to go for a run while we had a leisurely cup of tea and caught on on news, forums and social media! We then ventured out for coffee and a wander around. Dijon is a beautiful little town and easy to get around. However like most European places things start a little later here than back in Aus.

From Dijon we worked our way to Annecy via a few paces. First stop was at Chateau du clos de Vougeout for a look around. This is an old vineyard established by Monks in the 12th century but no longer produces wine.

The old wine presses. Some serious bits of timber. I belief it took 6 people to turn the big screw!

We then detoured to the little village of Meursalt for coffee and cake. We found a fantastic patisserie that did the most amazing pastry’s and cakes. There was a constant line out the door while we were there! Forgot to take photos of the cakes 😤

Then on to Beaune for lunch and a look around.

A well stocked local wine store with some vintage wines. Not sure how good any of them were.

And a bit of art.

We then visited the small Burgundy winery of Jaffelin for a tour and tasting. Jaffelin winery is the only winery still operating in Beaune town in the Notre Dame and produce predominantly Pinot Noir or Chardonnay varieties. The winery has been going since the early 1800’s.

From Beaune it was on to Annecy for two nights. Annecy is a picturesque Alpine town on Lake Annecy with so much surrounding it. Unfortunately it rained most of the time we were there.

Some photos from the car travelling to Annecy.

We booked a two bedroom apartment through Air BnB which was huge. We even had a piano in our bedroom.
