Scams like these

Received one of these a few years ago ... someone calls and there is a recorded voice speaking Chinese... the call also disconnects automatically, if you don't say thing in return .. Is that still the case?
First part sounds the same but my wife hung up quickly so not sure about the disconnection.

In 2016/17, there used to be a scammed recorded message from the Indian High Commission in CBR. The calls says that you have overstayed your visa and to visit the nearest VFS Global Office to get this rectified immediately. They also give you the option to extend your visa via the phone for a fee :p

A few of my colleagues, were genuinely concerned because they were on work permits and they just assumed that something was wrong.

Lots of phishing SMS texts from "Paypal" with authorisation codes today. Number reported was 0458 729 725. Scammer.

"PayPal: 5508xx is your security code. It expires in 10 minutes. Don't share this code with anyone."

For me it's Latitude Pay. "1234 is your LatitudePay verification code." Note there is no space between the words Latitude & Pay. There is no phone number, but the text is from "LatitudePay", no number listed

Yes had that one as well! :)

I had another today - I needed to pay something to get my ebay parcel delivered - yesterday it was Amazon

The weird thing about the Latitude or Paypal texts is there is no malicious link etc , just the number. 🤷‍♂️

Had a lovely young girl from Hong Kong accidently message me on WhatsApp. Apparently she got one digit wrong on the phone number trying to contact someone at Sydney University. Thanked me profusely for replying to her. Then proceeded to tell me she was visiting Sydney to consider becoming a student etc. Would like to thank me y buying me a coffee when she's here etc.

The messages continued on for sometime. She was very keen to establish some sort of relationship with me.

Of course its all a scam!

Apparently these are long game scams, taking months to play out fostering trust and building confidence in the person. Ultimately leads to cryptocurrency scams - depositing money into bank accounts etc. They play on the emotions of having someone be friendly to you!

I was going to post a similar thing, this has been going on for a while now,

while on a dating site, you match with them and they push you towards communicating via whatsapp and the chat continues.

I knew it was a scammer from the start, the asian ones all look the same, the european ones look like Stiflers mum,
often the phone number country code, their location, and their residence dont match

they all do the same thing Crypto trader, fashion business, entrepenur with offices around the world

But the thing that intrigues me is that for all of the conversations ive had, (some have lasted weeks/months)
is no matter how hard I try they dont ask for money

I ve tried to be too keen, keen, half interested
ive tried acting poor, rich
ive tried to even want to know about crypto
ive tried offering to meet up with them in their chosen country

Most of the people behind these scams play to a script. When you say things that aren't scripted for them, they wont know how to respond. I'm certain they don't anticipate someone to be so keen back to them!

I've got the same Whatsapp message a few months ago. I ignored the message.

Message from Bendigo bank the other day that an amount of money was debited. Click this link if the transaction is suspicious type message. I thought the SMS was suspicious so forwarded it to the bank scam email.
