Was booked to fly ADL-MEL-SYD on 9th July, but have just found my booking changed to Mon 11th July pm flight ADL-SYD.

Was booked on choice fare as a VA Gold member.

Thought i would have been one of the last to have booking changed or are VA aircraft issues this weekend?

Not sure what the VA schedules are like as an involuntary change I would call VA and see what else is available. Happened to one of MrsM flights the other day and put them onto another flight. You will not be charged for this. I you want to travel on the 9th is there a direct flight or via BNE assuming you are transiting MEL.

Looks like its going to a very "bad" weekend, in relation to flights.
I am scared of/for mine next week, looks like they are cancelling flights like crazy due to staff limitations, would say its pilots being off due to covid, which is sad, in the news too, they have said so.
I have got no confidence of anything in relation to flying these days, my paws are hoping we all get away, and back, but in the back of my mind, its "bad".
Edit: its also if the incoming plane is cancelled, or goes "inop" or lack of pilots, our outgoing flight from ADL will also get cancelled.
If there is any luck, we might be put onto the next flight, and that our seats might be downgraded from subclass of J to Y.

It would appear Virgin had cancelled more flights for the next 4 days vs the other two.

With next to no seats available across the networks as it was initially, I can see why people are having problems with cancelled flights and not being offered anything until early next week.

I know a few people who have lost car hire due to flight cancellations. The companies are flogging the rentals off for crazy amounts and have no cars available for the next fortnight. Huge financial burden to go on holiday during these peak periods if things go backwards.

Sadly, if it’s your flight that gets cancelled, it’s a pain...

however
adelaide airport has about 200 flights a day

cancelled
tues 5th
virgin 3 out, 2 in
JQ 2 out,
QF 1 out, 1 in

Wed 6th
Virgin 4 out, 4 in
JQ 3 out, 1 in
QF 1 out, 1 in (which is my flight next Wed.... hmmmm)
Rex 2 out, 1 in
(that’s not quite 10%)

Thurs 7th
3 canceled before the day

so from that perspective you’ve copped an unlucky break especially with VA not quite as adaptable as QF/JQ....

VA getting smashed with Covid from what I’m hearing.

I think too that when VA went into VA, they got rid of a lot of their other 737s, so even if they did have the crew available, grin, heh, maybe its no crew and planes sitting there available, who knows, but they probably bit more than they than they could chew when they gave back the planes to the owners.
Haven't flown for a few months, and now this happens.
Either I get stuck in ADL, and not fly, or get stuck in BNE and not be able to come back to ADL.

Shortage of aircfaft is definitely not the issue. The domestic 737 fleet is bigger now than it was pre-covid. They had 81 737s going into administration, 15 for international flying and the other 66 domestic. They now have 77 737s and basically all of those are on the domestic network. Only a couple of planes are needed for the current Bali/Fiji ops.

I’d agree with Jase, its most likely Covid crewing issues. If you search any of the cancelled flights for today for example on the VA flight status page, “crew limitations” is the reasoning for basically all of the cancelled services.

I only was flying back via Melbourne to make platinum VA now booked me direct to SYD on Monday night. Will be painfully just short of 1000 stats for platinum

The next available VA flight from Sydney to Melbourne is Monday 11th at 5.30pm! Fair to say the combo of school holidays and Covid staffing issues is smashing them.

After her original SYD-MEL flight was cancelled and she was moved to a replacement on Saturday evening, she has decided to cancel her booking so that will at least free up a seat...

Isn't ADL-MEL-SYD more expensive than ADL-SYD i.e. you're paying for two flights? I'd ask for a partial refund

Security screening was very short @ ADL airport @ 11.55 am today.
So far I think I was lucky.
Now for how long VAd has to deal with possible lack of staff to fly their planes, who knows.
Hope OP had his/her flight ok.
My flight later on today might still possibly get cancelled but touch wood.

Flew ADL -SYD last night, security was light also.
I did the chat function on velocity and after 15mins status credits added to my account.

Mine to BNE is delayed by an hour as the incoming flight from OOL is very late.
The ADL - OOL thats providing my flight was late leaving ADL earlier on today too.
It was probably from the bad fog earlier on today.
Anyway the flight might still get cancelled, lucky I live in ADL so can claim if my flight is cancelled.
