I have been watching this flight as I am taking it to get to an event. It seems to constantly be late or cancelled. Anyone know what the go is?

It's not scheduled to depart on the hour like most SYD-MEL flights...

Back to pre-covid normal ?
Always speculation with Qantas and Virgin cancelling Sydney <> Melbourne if they can consolidate 2 into 1.
Though to protect the slot they would alternate the cancellations, which due to waivers atm this isn't such a concern.
There has been bad weather on the east coast too which would play into some factors.

Yeah thanks. I assumed it was to do with loadings. I'll be there fairly early, so may get onto an earlier flight if this one doesn't go ahead.

I've had people shuttling back and forth on the golden triangle using both VA2 and QF, not many delays recently.

Flights are very busy though.

Saturday morning in the lounge I just returned to my seat with a coffee when I noticed my 9.30am flight show cancelled at around 8.30am. Just as I arrived at the lounge desk over heard them telling the guy in front to expect a phone call shortly.

I asked about other flights and she said I can get you on the 9am but need to know now as boarding had already commenced. So grabbed my partner and of we went running for the plane. I have no clue what happened to the other guy but was thankful to get to Melbourne early.

So when you get to the airport I would take an earlier flight if one is available.

Thanks for the heads up

The system should automatically move you to another service. I had a cancellation on the 1715 service just this week and was automatically moved to the 1700.

If, for example, the system automatically moves you to a later service, it would still be worth asking if there’s seats on an earlier flight. When there’s been a cancellation at short notice like that, they can move you to whatever service you desire as long as there are seats available, fare categories don’t matter.

Did you and your partner still end up sitting together?

Funny thing was when asked about the earlier flight she thought I was on my own and when I mentioned my partner she said there where no seats together. As it was an hour flight I said doesn't matter then left her to organise the change and I went off to get my partner.

I didn't check the tickets till halfway there then noticed us both in row 30 with a spare seat to spread out. Has been a long time since sitting that far back but as it was a short flight it didn't matter.
