Article: Major Qantas Domestic Catering Problems

Sounds like QF is really going to custard at the moment - but its all our fault 🤣

Is Menu Select still a thing on International flights ? or am I asking too much in the current climate. I looked at my flight on Wednesday and there is no option

How widespread are these issues? Was it just a portion of flights on Thursday / Fri morning?

Because if this is as widespread as the article implies, it’s strange it hasn’t made any other media (as far as I can see) and even on social media I can see plenty of ranting, a lot of rants about bags but I can’t see any rants over catering.

Not to say it’s not happening at all, we obviously have first hand accounts - but how many who have flown this weekend have received normal catering?

I only ask as I have a domestic J flight out of BNE tomorrow afternoon and wondering if I should start writing my complaint letter now…

Flew MEL-ASP, Saturday, we waited at the gate 30 mins until catering arrived, then an additional 20 for pushback. Was in row 4, J had their catering, we had choc brownie, water, juice 😁. Bags also turned up in ASP but took quite a while to come out.

I am flying from MEL to SYD on Monday 18 April in J at midday so will be interesting if we get lunch or just biscuits from Y...

Must have gotten lucky. All three domestic flights I've taken in the last 2 weeks have been catered as expected. Combinations of Y and J on the east coast.

One of the FAs on my flight yesterday said she had been told the catering problems were because QF had changed to a new catering company. I have no idea if this is true and I haven't heard it anywhere else.

It wasn't only onboard that food was lacking or disappointing over Easter weekend. The QF dom J lounge at MEL at 11.45am on Sunday had even fewer offerings than the ADL QP had had on Friday (which were sparse). The Spice Bar was empty and deserted, and the staff described it as 'finished' and 'it doesn't open any more' but whether they meant just for Easter or forever I'm not sure. There was nothing hot available other than soup. There was no bread to make a sandwich with, unless you like your ham and cheese sandwich made with fruit bread. There was loads of salad but the bowls to put it in were the size that I would use to put nuts in - maybe 5 cm diameter? Tiny, anyway. I ended up walking out and bought a ciabatta in the terminal. Glad I did because for a 12.50pm departure ADL MEL, Y got served a teeny pack of a square of cheese with 2 or 3 crackers, and the choice in J was described as 'afternoon tea' and was a salad or a toasted croque monsieur sandwich. I don't know whether this is normal for 12.50pm flights or not. My stomach definitely thought it was lunchtime even if QF didn't agree.

Update - I am on QF440 MEL to SYD midday departure from MEL. The FA just announced "Due to industry wide staff shortages there may be changes to the catering onboard today. We appreciate your understanding.". I think that is code for "No catering loaded on this flight".
