SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

That's what I thought but the system isn't letting him do it. Also, I have to book two one ways as it can't combine a star alliance ticket and a singapore ticket into one round trip.

Yes that is what I meant. It will be two separate Awards (bookings). One a Star Alliance Award and one a Partner Award.

For some reason it is not working. I want it on the one ticket in case we have any problem but the guy couldn't do it, He said he will keep trying and call me back. At the moment there are not many flights out of MEL and airlines like ANA don't fly here so we need to look at flights via SYD and they are making it difficult

I flew to BKK via SIN last week in J. The flight was 9:05am and pretty much everything at SYD was closed including the lounge. They only served breakfast around 10am with snacks available later (chips, chocolate bars, instant noodle et) . I had a one hour connection and it wasn't quite enough time in the lounge so I was left without a proper meal for like 8 hours. Thought they used to do 2 meals? If you take this flight, you might want to pack some food.

Edit: added SYD.

That's brutal. Is there any way of knowing if the lounge will be open? I don't think I could do a long layover without lounge access.

I thought they were doing a soft opening according to this article Singapore Airlines reopens Sydney, Melbourne lounges

Possibly, the "soft launch" only includes the afternoon/evening flights rather than the early morning one? (Edit: article says, soft launch covers evening flights only)

Hopefully in early 2022, they revert back to a full lounge reopen and full breakfast + pre-arrival light meal service on SQ212.

I hate the morning departure ex SYD as I don’t eat breakfast, but yes they usually do a lighter but still reasonable meal before landing in SIN.

Anyone seeing/saw J Saver/Advantage for MEL-SIN in Dec-Feb or is it too late now, appears to be empty for all 3 months I searched, in fact until end of March 2022. I think I might have seen some a few weeks ago but hadn't booked anything (my fault), but it seems Y is also dry, which seems rather odd, makes. me think that these few months have been blocked out. Though ADL and SYD are showing availability... unless there is unprecedented demand from MEL due to the countless lockdowns we had...
I've been randomly looking Jan-May for J/F 1-2 Weeks ago and there was heaps of J's in Jan/Feb/Mar on the a350 (2 flights ex-Mel), even saw some with 4 J pax available in Feb. Now there's zilch until 27th March when it switches to 4x777 flights ex-Mel with heaps J seats available.

Maybe there's a glitch? I don't believe all J seats are taken from Jan-Mar then there's suddenly saver/adv seats available when planes switch to 777.

Currently waiting on a few more points to post into my MR balance so I can swing them over to KF to pick up those sweet sweet bonus points (will only be getting 12% this time, but given that it's so difficult to earn KF miles any other way, I'll take what I can get)!

Doing the same for the missus too - we already have a J redemption lined up for April 2022, and can't wait to book even more.

Now just have to wait for SQ to get back to operating their entire network!

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Is there another bonus offer? I thought the last one ended yesterday (22/11.) Hope I'm wrong and that's not bad news for you MathNerd.
You're right @BriarFlyer - the current promo just ended at 2359 SGT on 22 Nov, which is 259 AEDST on 23 Nov. I made my transfers at around 0100 AEDST on 23 Nov as I'd read that points post to KF instantly. Just wanted to make sure that every single possible point that could be transferred was transferred (not running a business and putting thousands through the card every month means that I deal with smaller point balances than most here haha)!

It seems that bookings for next year haven't been released beyond 29 Oct (ex Europe to Aus). November would generally be open by now?

Normally (and we are not in normal times) bookings open at 355 days out.

Taking a quick look, Nov bookings to even just SIN are not yet open.

Or from say SIN to LHR.

It may well be that they are still to finalise what their 30 Oct onwards flights will be.

I'm still having a nightmare of a time getting my ticket booked. It is impossible to get them on the phone and now they are saying they can't add my MEL-SYD flight on Virgin to a star alliance award ticket, SYD-HND-YVR on NH. Has anyone else had this problem? It seems crazy, if I have a separate ticket, I won't be able to check my bags through and other hassles. Any advice please?

Was that ever possible since VA isn't part of Star Alliance?

Yes. The call centre seems to be struggling. There are segments that I can see available online but they can't see them on their end. This is for a couple of tickets that I wanted to be on a single itinerary rather than 2 itineraries - just so to avoid things getting complicated at transit in Changi. They could not even merge two confirmed redemption itinerary to make it a single one!!!

Was previously possible from VA/Velocity end - but not from krisflyer

Asking for a friend - who ain’t the shiniest ring in the display cabinet - why can’t I book SQ R or F to Frankfurt ex MEL any time soon?

Asking for a friend - who ain’t the shiniest ring in the display cabinet - why can’t I book SQ R or F to Frankfurt ex MEL any time soon?
Don't have an answer but ex Sydney is the same. I was looking at March and April.. No results even

Ended up booking confirmed J

So for the sake of above mentioned ‘friend’ who after 19 red wines at last nights Olive Tree dinner became quite argumentative when I informed him there is currently ZERO R or F offerings out of MEL can someone else pls confirm if this is the case?

I have seen no info as to when SQ might recommence R or F service but if intl borders stay open and numbers build I assume it will occur at some point in time?

Maybe even b4 said ‘friends’ F rdpt booking rolls around on April 1?

And again said ‘friend’ had trouble comprehending the fact that SQ can and have at next to no notice subbed metal on routes where F cabins disappear and replaced by aircraft with no F cabin onboard.

This happened to me 3 years ago when I was taking 3 of my sisters with me to be China for a holiday - I had 2 x F rdpts + 2 x J rdpts on 218 - a couple days b4 flt we were advised of of sub and F no longer available so the 2 F rdpts downgraded to J on 218.

It was just too late to change plans and we did get F lounge access in MEL and TPR / F lounge access in SIN but 2 of the girls missed an F sleep.

And there was no refund of any miles as technically it fell into mixed class rdpt booking which prices at highest cabin rate. The 2 F tix holders were offered a one way J->F cabin upgrade MEL-SIN to use anytime in future but that had to be used by tix holder themselves and could not be passed on.

One tix was in my name so I did subsequently use it but the other one went unused.

Oh how I do miss SQ R/F.
