I'm still learning my way around here, so please move this to another forum if appropriate.

I'm trying to piece together an itinerary - initially want to get from MEL - CPT and I'll worry about the rest later. Qatar seem to be the best as they have a direct flight into Cape Town from Doha airport. I'm using the Qantas booking tool at the moment just playing around with dates and times to get ready to book it when the dates become available, however I can not get Doha airport to even come up as an option as a destination (or origin). It will come up if I do HKG - CPT for example, I can see there is a stop over in Doha, but I can't get Doha just by itself to search MEL-Doha or Doah - CPT. Does anyone know why?

That, or a similar one has long been a glitch on the Qantas site. I think it has something to do with the fact that Qantas have no currency exchnage arrangement with Doha. You have to purchase a flight in the funds of the country of origin; without a currency arrangement, Qantas can't offer origin from Doha, so it never comes up as a port of origin.

There was a 'trick' where you could or can fool the booking engine into accepting DOH, but I've long forgotten it. Maybe someone could PM you with the formula, but it may not be worth the hassle if you are just in prelim stages. Use another OneWorld airline's site?

Use the multi flight search with any other leg first. Put the Doha flight as the second leg and you should get results. Once you have found the flight, you would have to call Qantas to book it.

Thanks Rooflyer and Scr77.

I can't enter Doha as either an origin or destination, even with a multi-flight option so I'll have to use Rooflyer's suggestion of another oneworld site.
