Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

NSW: There has also been a case in the Byron area (not sure if that means just passing through or not).
Sky News said it was linked to the Gold Coast. Obviously a very sensitive issue between the states so NSW is not throwing any stones (yet)

Unfortunately Newcastle is the gateway to the regions (it's where the M1 forks to the New England and Pacific Highways). Keeping covid out of Newcastle kept the regions safe, but now it's here we're seeing it spread quickly.

I think for this reason Newcastle is in for a long lockdown. It's too connected to Sydney and it has spread to almost all areas of Greater Newcastle in just a week.

Vic Presser:
11 cases , all linked. One case fully in isolation during infectious period.

About 13 thousand close contacts in quarantine. At the prime early sites about 90% have already been tested.

Jeroen:
Breakdown of cases
  • 7 Caroline Springs Shopping Centre = 5 in household of real estate agent. 1 household member of Jolly Miller Cafe staff member and 1 customer at spectacle hub
  • 2 Newport Football Club. One a coach and one a player.
  • 1 household case (child) of a family in Newport
  • 1 Al Taqwa child
Caroline Springs Shopping Centre is now the main site of concern. About two thirds of people who were there have so far been tested and they want the remainder to get tested.

CHO just said they travelled from Sydney in late July.

Sounds like the ABC were the ones who reported the person was from the Gold Coast, which now seems incorrect.

If the person did come from Sydney, that is going to put some pressure on the border.

International arrivals into HQ in Victoria will not be reduced based on the current situation.

Currently there are adequate facilities to rehouse people in the current outbreak who cannot quarantine at home. Note that some who are quarantining away from home are doing it in non-HQ facilities.

Further Dr Young said that she understood that he had travelled from Sydney, but was staying in the Byron Region:

ABC News: NSW: Health authorities notified of case in the Byron area

NSW Health have been notified of a man in his 50s who has tested positive and was in the Byron area.
NSW Health says:
As a precaution everybody who is in the following local government areas should immediately isolate and have a COVID-19 test if they have even the mildest of symptoms: Byron Shire, Richmond Valley, Tweed, Lismore, Kyogle and Ballina.

Yeah, in my opinion, given the context its cough news - asymptomatic + symptomatic testing, now over 0.2% positivity rate consistently, more testing to come because they need to relaxation restrictions for construction workers from LGAs of concern that can't get vaccinated more than 3 weeks ago.

Would be interesting to see how many of those are those mandatory tests required for certain industries rather than people with symptoms - so the same people over and over again chewing up capacity and causing delays for close contacts who need the tests.

I think the other thing that happened today is that the 'Bondi Outbreak' (is it a wave?) is now bigger than the sum of all previous cases in NSW to the beginning of the pandemic.

It has also gone past Ruby Princess in terms of in-jurisdiction deaths (there were RP deaths outside NSW and overseas too).

NSW also grabbing the Australian record for peak ICU - still going for the Australian record for peak ventilator (only 4 off).

'It doesn't make sense': Calls for North Coast NSW three day snap lockdown

Member for Lismore Janelle Saffin is calling for a snap three day lockdown on the North Coast after a man tested positive to COVID-19.

The man in his 50's was admitted to Lismore Base Hospital yesterday, believed to be visiting the Byron Bay region from Sydney.

Ms Saffin says she can't understand why the Premier hasn't imposed a lockdown on the region to protect local residents.

"It doesn't make sense. Why in Tamworth [with] no case and why Lismore where we have someone confirmed at the hospital and has been in the region and no lockdown," Ms Saffin said.

It's a fair point...what's the logical explanation?
