Hi all,

A few questions around booking flights with VA...

1. Looks like you cannot combine use of Travel Bank and a Promo Code. Anyone know of a way you can do so?

2. Can you upgrade with points if you have used;
(a) Travel Bank or
(b) a Promo Code
for the original booking?

3. Ignoring the above, and assuming you have booked a Y ticket that is upgrade-able, it looks like if you request an upgrade - and there is availability - the upgrade is confirmed / locked in immediately. Is that correct?

4 And finally! If there are Reward Seats available in J on a particular flight, does that correspond to Upgrade availability (the way it does, or used to, or sorta does, on QF)? Such that I could book a specific flight in Y knowing that upgrades are available by checking for Reward Seat availability. Or is there another way to check (that isn't calling them - would they tell me anyway?)?

Thanks heaps for any help with any of the above.

Sounds like you can but may have to call:

My experience is not going to answer your specific questions. I recently booked x3 Y fares PER-ADL, they were heavily discounted and I assume this may have been related to the half price sale. I had to call VA but all were upgraded using the VA WP upgrade coupons.

Thanks AIRwin. Appreciate the link - I did search to see if this had come up but I guess my search was not very good :)

Thanks Matt. As you say, not the exact scenario but an interesting data point anyway which might suggest a general approach from VA.

I tried to use a promo code to book flights using Travel Bank but it didn't work (but in my case it didn't really matter too much as the flights were a good price anyway).

I have upgraded flights with points that I booked using the Travel Bank (and the original flights were booked using a discount code). The TB isn't a promo or discount, it's just another form of payment.

If there are J reward seats, usually four per flight, then you can upgrade using points (or you may have a good chance if you do an acceptable bid).

Do a dummy J booking and if there are the amount of seats you want in the 'Business Saver' fare category, then there will be that many seats available to upgrade. If there are seats the upgrade will go through immediately. However if there aren't any you can still go on the waitlist to upgrade.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

BNEFlyer; thanks, very helpful info.
