SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

It is a shame as I was actually looking forward to fly out of CBR internationally for the first time. I've been flying in and out of CBR regularly to other domestic cities for 2 years. Quite a nice airport.
I flew internationally to and from CBR last year with Qatar. It was a terrific experience with very few people so getting through customs so easy - no queues and coming back no having to collect luggage and check it in again. Was very sad to see Singapore cancel the route and hope Qatar still flies out of Canberra once things normalise.

has anyone experienced like in the article recently?
would kind of suck to get offered no refills, no chit chat, much less service, all food brought out at once

makes it even harder to justify the difference in cost

It's very much down to individual airlines, and local government regulations. Some are offering an almost full service with minor changes, some have gone down the route of 'bare basics'.

Wise to do your research first.

Just got a cancellation email from SQ on cancelling my SQ288 SYD-CBR-SIN(-CAN) J awards for 6 people booked for April next year. I have requested for full refund of miles and cash component. Not sure how long it will take SQ to do.

Now I am waiting for SQ to cancel my return J award HKG-SIN-SYD in late April.
Can I ask did you just fill in the online form for the refund?

i had flights canceled a few weeks ago and haven’t done anything about it yet since i have not been able to confirm what will happen to the points expiry date on the returned points.

I am keen to hear from anyone who have had points returned that were due to expire during the booking.

Not massivly impressed with SQ regarding this SQ288 cancelation. I was booked next year (connecting from JNB) SIN-SYD and got an email saying it's been cancelled and all sectors had been removed. Spoke to them tonight and they said "no saver seats available on any flight SIN-SYD so we've cancelled your entire booking"

Yes I filled in the online form based on the link of the email. They have sent an acknowledgement email. So I am waiting now.

CBR airport is a pleasure to depart / arrive to. The close to midnight SQ flight CBR - SIN had great timing. Hop on and straight to sleep, awake to an early morning and straight into The Private Room for coffee and breakfast before going out into the day. Those were the days, really hope this comes back one day.

But why would you want to sleep on any SQ flt when in R or F?

YES I know I did it 100s times in days gone by - but last few years totally went out of my way to only take daytime flts where possible - so glad I did and will certainly continue same if and when SQ R / F becomes a reality again.

There was only one flight CBR - SIN, around midnight. It’s a long way CBR-SIN-FRA-JFK. With 16 hours or so transit in SIN it’s a slog for me. Plenty of time to enjoy suites /R and lounges.

Everyone is different! People have different needs with respect to the flight and post-flight.

I do prefer day/evening flights because of the increased menu options, but outside of that I'll sleep to pass the time (I'm not a huge user of IFE).

I am starting to get a bit nervous about my Krisflyer points. I can't see SQ going under completely ( I think TG and MH would go first) but surely they will have to restructure radically, remove F etc. I never got to do my first F flight on SQ last month and sad to think that I probably never will.

You might have missed A380 Suites, because the longer this virus goes on the less likely those aircraft will sadly ever come back - but - SQ does have a large fleet of 777-3 series and 20-odd 777-9's on order, all with F.

Don't worry - they won't be removing F entirely!

I want suites!

As good as SQ F and every other carriers F is IMO nothing compared to old R - it stands head and shoulders above the rest - it has a magic about it just like the climb up the stairs on 747 had.

As MEL pointed out we are all different - I did 100 flts in SQ Y to / fro China before I discovered AFF - but once I exp SQ F then R life changed - then scores of o/n flts in J and F til I woke up daytime only - life is too short not to max the exp - just look at 2020

I think I am in the same boat.
SQ288 cancelled on 21 June 2021, I had an award saver J booked, MXP to SYD via SIN 1 way. looks like they have cancelled the entire ticket
My SYD to FRA via SIN is still confirmed for F saver for now

Just keep pushing them. It was fixed in the end. There’s a departure to Sydney 55 mins later and they put us on that. Then discovered the JNB flight was marked to be cancelled as well 🙄. Ended up rebooking out of Cape Town. Once I got past the initial difficulties, there was no debate at all. I think the front line staff are being led to take the easiest course of action.

thanks.
bugger i rebooked already as advantage & submitted to cancel/refund the original one.
oh well i'll get home earlier

I'm thinkin' the 'nickin and coughin' about SQ flt cancellations taking too long to return pts & $s maybe a tad over the top - I just cancelled a QF F booking on EK MEL-DXB-ZRH Nov 22 and advised refund of pts & $s can take up to 12 weeks.

I have cancelled over a dozen SQ flts and they have taken between o/n and about 6weeks max I think - majority within couple weeks. Either way - either airline - I really feel for all airlines and TBH my life is not going to come to an end between cancellation and return of pts & $s - I just hope there aint too many airlines whose life comes to an end due to this unimaginable pandemic.
