Discussion on Cats, Moggies and Felines in general [with Pictures]

Our mog was advertised by the rscpca as a snowshoe.
We had no idea at the time what a snowshoe looked like , but optimistically decided on inspection that maybe he was.
He isn't…well we now don't think so anyway.. even with his movie star looks
He is, however a bloody good facsimile thereof and we still have no firm idea of his origin.
We will settle for a Heinz….and a freakin excellent cat….

Many years ago, in another country, my brother and his wife adopted a tiny puppy from an animal shelter - they were told that is was some sort of "sausage dog" - I think that is a dachshund? It was tiny - very young. Over the next year it grew into a beautiful doberman. And it appeared to me to be of immaculate breeding - perfect genetics. Great dog! And a surprise...

Although I have never personally had one, a doberman (with ears and tail intact) is a wonderful breed.

Am learning through new cat ownership that these regal beasts always a adopt a conservative, polite, delicate and tidy pose as they nap:

Actually, perhaps in this case it reflect's Louis' masterful use of colours and textures for camoflague??
I was missing Louis - glad to see him making himself at home :D

I have my in-laws visiting at the moment. When my wife and I sorted out the guest room, we were making the king-size bed up, did the sheets, but when we placed the doona on, there was suddenly a huge lump in the middle - he had managed to throw himself on it as the doona came down :/ After that bit of naughtiness, he waited at the side until we finished making the whole room nice and pretty. He then leapt up, went to the centre of the bed, looked around with a feline disdainful expression, but then decided "his" new room was up to scratch. He then had a nap there.

This is Louis on one of his many walks.

He is a 100% indoor cat. This breed is very naive and almost defenseless in the real world. But he does love having a walk. I know many cats would never tolerate a harness, but starting him young, he does not mind it.
You are lucky - my daughter tried with one of her cats and even when he was a baby there was no way he would walk in a harness.
Friends cat loves to have a swing in the sheets as they are folding them after the laundry.

I think but of the "luck" actually comes from the breed's name - ragdolls. They are called this as their instinct is to go limp when picked up. This is really nice so you can give your moggy a cuddle with all that beautiful dense soft fur, but it also means when we grabbed him the first time to put the harness on he did not go ballistic.

The other part was not luck - in that I rapidly got the gist that you do not "take a cat for a walk" - rather you follow them on their hunt. If you respect that, I imagine things go much better.

I do love my Louis :) He is growing so fast though. Just after his six month birthday and he is approaching 5kgs. And you can see from the last photo he is not "fat". I love that - with my dogs I always liked larger breeds too. But my wife is worried - as he loves jumping up on the bed and sleeping on top of her from about 4am. He doesn't do that to me - I explain this to my family as him "respecting" me as the alpha-cat :)

Max better enjoy the run, given the sacrifices I have made! A minor flesh wound, he says, more info in the medical thread.
