I was just looking at the United Airlines website for flights from Florida to Cairns for a friend and it offered connecting flights operated by Qantas. Are there any rumours or information of deals between these two, considering they are members of different alliances?

Qantas and United have sold each other’s flights on some route combinations since I can remember. Nothing new here. Qantas is firmly in bed with AA from a strategic alliance point of view.

Thanks for that. Haven't really looked at United website before.

Qantas has interline agreements with lots of airlines. It's the lowest possible form of partnership and is not a codeshare agreement, so you won't earn points/miles for travel on each others' flights.

Given United don't have a partnership with VA or QF domestic flights are on whatever airline works best/ they have an interline agreement with. You wouldn't see QF booking UA flights in the USA because they are with AA, same with VA and DL

Actually, Qantas does offer some interline connections with United within the USA.

This is the exception though, not the rule. Obviously it preferences the AA codeshares, and you wouldn't earn any QF points/SCs when booking United connections.

There you go, thought they might have but assumed AA covered all domestic options
