I’m VA Platinum top 1% and just flew In J on my birthday to Auckland. Didn’t get personalised welcome or any acknowledgment.
I know it’s first world problem but this is sort stuff that would make me jump the ship

I hope you got the birthday month discount.As a member of the top 90% of VA flyers I was offered one.

I have only flown once on my birthday it was back in 1969.It was on Air Pacific HON-POM.They made it special by not booking any other pax on the flight and then making it an open bar.
Escorted down the stairs at POM by an FA on either side.They had even arranged for a band to play the National Anthem as I got off.Well they were actually expecting the Aust.GG that day.

Will say LAX-SYD, hubby got in depth welcome and thanked him for being a loyal WP at both beginning and end of flight from cabin manager. It was a bit over the top strange but Julia Bishop was sitting across the aisle from him so maybe that had something to do with it

I’ve been a VA Plat 4 years,top 1% for the last two and gifted platinum for the last three years.

Never once have I received a personalised welcome, drink from business or extra snack...

VA treat their true FF’s like sh@t, I’ve just learnt to live with it...The future doesn’t look any better and the companies unwillingness to join a alliance is the icing on the cake. The next chance I get I’ll be switching to QF on a status match.. and I’ll take my 150k yearly spend with me not that VA will give a stuff

The next chance I get I’ll be switching to QF on a status match.. and I’ll take my 150k yearly spend with me not that VA will give a stuff

If You are spending that much I would certainly be with QF.

I’m not a top tier flyer and I’m often welcomed on QF and offered above and beyond what is expected.

QF do not treat their top tier (WP1) that much better than the rest of the bunch.

Yes, you should move your business if you are dissatisfied. Just don't expect Qantas will necessarily recognise your patronage in the way you observe Virgin fails to. I'd earn the QF status you want and then try to maintain some VA status. Then you are not necessarily tied to one or the other.

If it makes you feel any better, I've flown to Auckland via Virgin as Plat (not in business but Economy X) - no special treatment at all. Row 4 may have well been row 30. I had depression for the next 3 days.

You must be one of the unlucky ones. Myself and wife are VA Plats and also regularly gift Gold or Platinum and I find the staff to be excellent. We nearly always get a personal greeting and get bottles of wine from the CSM quite often. We nearly always fly J with VA but on severals flights that we have flown Economy X we have been offered a PDB or an extra snack. Have never been a WP1 with QF but as a WP I never hardly got boo from staff so the grass isn’t always greener

Geeze,
Back in 2016, flew BNE-LAX in Y with Mrs Muppet501st ( no status) on her birthday and we both received wine and desserts from J. I did inform VA the week before about it via FB chat.
