I posted earlier in the thread about the GPD Pocket 2. Since then I have dabbled with the Surface Go (alright but I dislike the keyboard - not great when not on a stable, level service)......but now GPD has introduced an Ultrabook and quite frankly it is very, very good. I opted for the 512GB hard drive and 16GB of ram.

GPD P2 Max - Shenzhen GPD Technology Co., Ltd.

I have been looking for the perfect travel PC for a long time and this is a close as I have found. I dual boot Windows 10/Ubuntu Mate 19.10 - the latter specifically for the GPD P2 Max. The 8.9 inch screen is a huge step up from the Pocket 2. The downside is the lack of a backlit keyboard.......oh and the camera is not in the best location.

Cool thanks for the update! I've seen similar on AliExpress also and thinking about it. The Surface Pro X looks interesting - but my next Surface product is likely to be a Surface Book once my SP4 has had its day (or dropped - which is more likely)

Does Ubuntu come pre-installed or you've done so yourself? As for the downsides - Backlit keyboards are only good for dark environments, and I find the screen is bright enough to satisfactorily light the keyboard. And camera? isn't that what camera's are for? at least - mobile phones these days?

It come with Windows 10 Home installed. I agree on the camera and in reality the lack of backlit keyboard is no great drama.

This line from the product page gave me a chuckle!

I may be looking for something that doesn't exist but I want a cube that has 4 power points and 2 USB like this

but it would be wonderful if had interchangeable plugs like this

Does anyone have any suggestions please?

Last year I bought a Dell Inspiron 13 7000 Series 2-in-1 -7373 8th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8550U 512GB SSD. If I ignore the battery life this is a cracker of a device. I chose it for the wrong reason - it had an SD card reader  It's been away with us twice now and providing there's access to a powerpoint it's beautiful. Small, light, super fast. Great to do the basic edits that I do although I have Lightroom installed. The battery life killed me though (I just hadn't even looked at it for some reason).

So last week I bought myself a Asus Zenbook Flip 13 UX362FA 13.3" Intel Core i5 512GB SSD. I know it's a good seven months before we head off on our Intrepid Overland trip but a gadget is a gadget and I love a new gadget. Much more research this time but we missed an issue with the 'ELAN' trackpad, apparently inherent with ASUS net/ultra/convertibles. We're working on solutions but I've already been on contact with the seller to let them know it's a bit of an issue. Partially solved with latest drivers but def not perfect. This thing has excellent battery life though. Trying it out this weekend but already past seven hours with a couple still showing as remaining and that's what I want. Swings and roundabouts. Nothing is perfect unless you pay for perfect and I'm not that guy...

No SD card reader so I've also bought a SanDisk Extreme PRO SD UHS-II USB Type-C Card Reader/Writer Speed Up to 500MB/s that I'll use to copy photos to the Zenbook.

Closest I came was the Aldi travel adapter kit.

That is much better than any cube IMHO - I have an upmarket version of that with higher capacity USB outlets which I bought in SIN couple years back - it did have SIN plug on it but the boys at work soon changed that

I bought the ALDI kit for the plug end and then used that on a universal power board with the higher USB output.. I think I may have posted photos a few years back. In the end it is too bulky for me and have moved to a 4 USB A/1 USB C travel adapter plus a 75 W dual USB C/ Dual USB A adapter.

There's one in the AFF 'shop'. I got one recently and it's brilliant. Good USB current output which means it charges devices quickly. If your can't find the shop in the forum, PM @Admin

Edit: oops, sorry it's not like the one in your link with 4 power outlets.🥵 But there may be one of those in the shop.

Edit: here's 'tis: AFF Community Online Store

Not quite similar, I understand but I have this:

They have a US three-pin plug at the end of the cable. In fact I have two spare brand new (box is a bit worn, but item unused) if anyone is interested in having them. Many sellers on Aliexpress for them

EDIT They're going to new homes now, thanks.

Yep that is what I have SBF and IMHO it is perfect - you would never contemplate a cube after seeing these

I also have some 25cm lightning cables I bought in China which overcome the cable tangle problem although simple elastic bands do the same job.

I've now moved away from carrying power strips or multiple adapter's altogether. My setup is to carry a two pin power cord for the destination I am visiting and use one of these

C8 to 2X C7 Y Split AC Power Cord

Then this can go direct into my laptop Powerpack and/or into this (I also have a two pin extension cord if required):

Satechi dual 75W USB-c travel adapter

Now the USB-C PD can provide 45W of power which is enough for me to run a Surface Pro using a USB-C to surface connector cable, and the second USB-C supplies enough power to run a portable display if I need to take a second screen.

If I need multiple plugs for different countries, I use these type (and make friends at airports when they see the adpater available as I usually only require the two pin plug)

Universal AU US EU to UK Plug 2 in 1 - also have these for US/EU/INDIA and AUS too.

Probably breaks all sorts of electrical safety rules, but have never had any issues, none of the power packs or cables have been abnormally heated.

The piece of the puzzle that I'm missing is a powerbank with USB-C with 45+W of output AND pass through charging. I have a nice slim Cygnett brand powerbank but I can't have it recharging whilst it's powering my laptop.

I've abandoned the power strip and also gone for the Satechi 75W dual USB C. I also power a surface pro and the 18 W USB C charges my GPD P2 Max.

This seems to be working for me, charging my GPD whilst itself is recharging.

I like the splitter. (Mr Amazon will now be delivering one to me tomorrow!! :) )

This is my travel adapter.

We're quite like minded with some of those!

Here's the power bank I'm using for my Surface Pro, it could handle your GPD also I imagine, it just lacks the pass through facility.

20,000mAh USB-C Power Bank in Black

There are bigger and Kickstarter type options that seem to have both, but I'll hold and wait before gambling with crowdfunding.

Regarding the splitter, consider a short extension cable as well so your two power packs don't need to be side by side. I use this setup when I'm exhibiting at trade shows.

I also have that one. o_O

I have a retractable power cable with a UK plug that folds over flat. (As well as US and AU when necessary. )

I currently have three "bases" so have stuff everywhere and keep forgetting charger and power banks!!)
