Something big is coming! (1st May)

As expected, it's a bonus points offer for transfers from various credit card and hotel programs to Velocity. Up to 25% bonus points on offer this time around. The promo is running for the month of May.

Seems like quite a few programs participating this time around.

Details here - Earn 15% bonus Velocity Points this month

I've got ~250k flybuys points and the 138k limit seems to apply. If I remember correctly this wasn't the case this time last year and they had a month of uncapped transfers? Oh well, seeing as they usually do another 25% towards the end of the year I'll likely sit on these and then transfer at the end of the year before it resets to the new calendar year.

Fantastic timing! Mrs NoName is about to close her ANZ Travel Rewards card so a 50% bonus when she transfers all the points out is a lovely parting gift!

Great for the bonus offer. The marketing spin is in overdrive! Shame it's not something a bit more exciting and less predictable though. Wouldn't it have been awesome if some of the suggestions on here were carried out!?

Does anyone know if one can get this bonus as well as the velocity 15 % bonus for first transfers for accounts less then 45 days old ?
Also does one need to pre register ?

I don't see anything in the T&Cs requiring an account be over a certain age. And no registration is required.

Thanks . So I take it that I'm general velocity does not impose the ' only one promotion at at a time rule rule '

Can someone please confirm if how this works is: 2 ANZ rewards points becomes 1 Velocity point. Plus 50% bonus of 0.5 velocity point = 1.5 in total received?

Yep, that's right. An easier way to think about it is that during the promotion period, the usual 2:1 conversion rate from ANZ to Velocity effectively becomes 4:3, whereby you take the number of ANZ points you have, multiply it by 0.75, and that's how many Velocity points you'll wind up with.

ANZ has run this kind of booster offer in the past, and for me, all the bonus points arrived at the same time as the transfer the last time I moved them across.

50% from ANZ to Velocity and then onward to KrisFlyer also beats the 3:1 conversion from ANZ straight to KrisFlyer, if that's your thing too. E.g. normally 100k ANZ points = approx 33,333 SQ miles. However under this promo, 100k ANZ = 75k VA, which then = approx 48387 SQ miles when converted from VA to SQ at the 1.55:1 rate.

Since getting an ANZ card I've also made a habit out of clicking through the ANZ Bonus Points Mall for online purchases where the earn rate is equal to or greater than what could be gained directly through the Qantas/Velocity malls (or when ANZ was the only option) - so on purchases that provided 10 bonus ANZ points per $1 spent, that'll become 7.5 Velocity points per $1 spent when transferring my points over this month (and that's on top of points earned from the credit card payment itself), so that's very nice!

This is up there with the “Most. Underwhelming. Promo. Ever.”.......

Why?

VFF displayed a single webpage to some of their members (it did not appear on my VFF account and was most likely targeted at those who have transferred CC points previously) indicating that a 'promotion' of some sort was coming.

I hate to say 'I told you so' but it was always very clear that this was going to be a transfer bonus promotion. Any expectations above that were only wishful thinking or from the haters.

If KF were going to have a CC transfer bonus promotion in the next month or two, I would like to get a heads up so I would be able to take advantage of it and not transfer a few days before.

At least VFF did not make their program 'simpler and fairer'....

A lousy point transfer bonus is hardly exciting for “something big is coming”.

So if a promotion is just 'hardly exciting' (to you) that now equates to the 'most underwhelming promo ever'?

I will not be participating in the promotion but that does not mean it will not be useful to others...

My comment reflects my opinion of the spin versus the reality.

They’re over selling and under delivering.

Don't agree. It's just summarising what happened. That there's a bonus. It didn't say it was the biggest ever or anything greater.

How do you live in modern society? Almost all advertising oversells the benefits/quality etc of the product/service that is actually delivered. Look at the QF website as an example....

What did VFF 'oversell'?

What is the appropriate threshold for 'big' in this case?

Would you be happy if VFF had used the line, 'Something small to possibly medium in size is coming'?

It's marketing. And as we're sitting here talking about it, what it could be, what it is, what it was... It's done its job.

The reality can be different the way I see it :p

So how fast do ANZ Rewards points come through on credit card deals, if you meet the required spend within the first few days? A 50% bonus on something like a 50K points sign-on would be rather tasty.
Pity I've already got the Travel Rewards card and I think it has direct sweep to VFF. I'm also pretty sure the bonus points for that CC posted a week or so after the min spend was met. Will be cancelling and churning once I get back from next OS trip.

<scurries off to see what other sign-on bonii ANZ may have>
